Man charged after knifepoint cab-jacking
A 51-year-old man is facing charges laid after a cabbie was carjacked at knifepoint in the city’s east end Wednesday.
It happened at around 6:10 p.m. at the intersections of Marquette and Beechwood avenues, where the suspect had directed the driver.
Upon arrival, the passenger brandished a knife, ordered the driver out of his seat and drove off with his taxi, police allege in a release Friday.

Police seek trio in east-end corner store robbery
Police are asking the public to help them identify a woman and two men involved in corner store robbery in Vanier on Jan. 4.
They say the incident occurred at about 1:10 a.m. when the woman allegedly put items in her bag and tried to leave the store in the 300 block of Montreal Road.
The store clerk refused to unlock the door.

Man attempts to flee police after being stopped for distracted driving
A driver turned an apparently simple distracted driving offence into a possibly long list of expensive charges after an ill-considered escape attempt Thursday.
The drama began when the man was seen using his cellphone while travelling along 10th Line Road in Orléans at around 4 p.m.
Police pulled him over on the busy thoroughfare and, as per protocol, took note of his license plate numbers before approaching the car to inform the driver of the charges he could be facing.

Brian Lilley leaving CFRA to join Toronto Sun as a political columnist
Conservative broadcaster and journalist Brian Lilley, host of CFRA’s Beyond the News, will be leaving the Ottawa radio station to join the Toronto Sun as a political columnist.

A 16-year-old youth from Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Que., faces a host of charges after leading OPP in a chase on Highway 401 this week.
Stormont Dundas and Glengarry OPP allege the teen failed to stop for officers who wanted him to pull over after a traffic violation Wednesday.
The chase reached speeds of 209 km/h in the 100 km/h zone before officers were able to intercept the vehicle and bring it to a stop.
The teen, whose identity cannot be released under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was charged -

Casselman massage therapist charged with sexual assault
A Casselman massage therapist was arrested Thursday and charged with sexual assault in connection with a November 2017 incident.
Stéphane Racine, 50, is to appear in court in L’Orignal Feb. 13, Russell County OPP said in a release Friday.
“Police are attempting to identify any other possible victims of similar crimes,” the OPP said in the release.

Native 'solidarity slowdown' affecting traffic on Highway 401: OPP
Provincial police are asking motorists to be patient during a “solidarity slowdown” on the westbound Highway 401 Friday morning.
The protesters’ vehicles were in the Prescott area as of about 8 a.m., the OPP reported.
They were travelling at a slower than highway speed in both lanes but police wouldn’t say who’s protesting or what it’s about.

At first glance, the seven new large-scale works by Ottawa artist Anthony Tremmaglia on exhibit at the Ottawa Art Gallery look like sculptures captured on paper. Or maybe digitally manipulated images cut and pasted into an abstract collage.
