Egan: Remembering John Nelligan, Ottawa's big-hearted legal giant
John Nelligan started high school at age 10, when his peers were in Grade 5 or 6. It sounds impossible but, before the legal giant died Monday at the age of 97, he’d led an impossibly successful life, so often ahead of the curve.
“He used to joke that he was the only one in high school still in short pants,” said Peggy Greb, the eldest of three children, while passing along several touching stories about her father.
He kept, for instance, a special photo album that contained a -

Cold weather shakes things up near Kingston
People living in portions of South Frontenac Township heard a loud bang and felt the ground shake on Monday just after 2:30 p.m.
But it wasn’t an earthquake and was nothing to be concerned about, said Alex Braun, a professor with the department of geological sciences and geological engineering at Queen’s University.
It was a frost quake, he said.
“You need a couple of ingredients to create a frost quake,” Braun said in an interview on Wednesday.

All outdoor rinks now have volunteer operators, city says
A week ago, the City of Ottawa reported that 13 of about 250 outdoor rinks might not open in 2019 because no one had stepped forward to make and maintain ice.

Let there be white: Renovation Transformation keeps Stittsville home classic with a traditional twist
