Pembroke lumber yard owners assess options after massive fire
The owners of Heideman’s Pembroke planing mill say the operation will be shut down for an extended period after a massive blaze at the Boundary Road operation on Wednesday.

More than 100 impaired charges in OPP holiday RIDE stops
More than 100 drivers were found to have been too festive over the holidays at provincial police RIDE stops.
In all, 97 drivers were charged with being impaired by alcohol and eight more charged with being impaired drugs at the 2,700 Festive RIDE stop operations across the region from Nov. 23 to Wednesday, the OPP said in a news release.
An additional 68 drivers had their licenses suspended after registering in the “warning” range on roadside testing devices.

Canadian air task force finishes Romanian mission, personnel coming home later this month
Canada’s air task force in Romania has completed its four-month deployment with NATO and its personnel will return home later this month.
The task force was composed of approximately 135 Canadian Forces personnel and five CF-18 Hornets. The personnel were mainly from 425 Tactical Fighter Squadron, supported by personnel primarily from 2 Air Expeditionary Wing and 3 Wing Bagotville, Que.

Merivale reopens after water main repairs
The city has reopened a 100-metre stretch of Merivale Road following two days of work to repair a broken water main.
The stretch, between Shillington and Kirkwood avenues, had been mostly closed (one southbound lane was open) since New Year’s Day.

Fast-moving Mercedes named 'Vixen' gets ride to police impound
Ugly writing on a Mercedes wasn’t what caught the attention of an Ontario Provincial Police officer earlier this week, it was the fact that the Mercedes was being driven at 190 km/hr on Highway 401.
An officer from the Napanee detachment of the OPP was patrolling the westbound lanes of Highway 401 in Belleville on Tuesday when the white Mercedes flew by.

Firefighters control Greely garage blaze
Ottawa Fire Services made quick work of an early morning blaze at a home in Greely Tursday.
Shortly before 3 a.m., crews were called to 7111 Quinnfield Way after several callers, including the homeowner, reported heavy flames from the attached garage of the home.
Firefighters found the fire had also travelled into an addition above the garage.
Occupants had managed to get out safely.
The fire was under control by about 4 a.m. There are no reported injuries.

Missing woman, 21, was last seen on New Year's Eve
City police are asking the public to help them find a missing woman who was last seen in the area of Daly Avenue on Dec. 31.
There are concerns for Cassandra Jackowski’s safety, investigators said in a news release Wednesday evening.
She is described as white, 5’5″ tall with a slim build, brown eyes and very long dark brown hair. She wears glasses but it’s not known what clothing she was wearing.
Anyone with information about Jackowski’s whereabouts is asked to call
