UPDATED: Ottawa Senators owner Eugene Melnyk hit with $1 billion-plus counterclaim over 'failed' downtown arena bid
John Ruddy and Trinity Developments have fired back at business partner Eugene Melnyk in a counterclaim for more than $1 billion, alleging the hockey magnate’s Ottawa Senators-affiliated company is on shaky financial footing and has been the main reason why their LeBreton Flats redevelopment partnership is ruined.
Ruddy’s lawyers filed his statement of defence and counterclaim Tuesday in response to a $700-million lawsuit filed last month by Melnyk’s Capital Sports Management I -

Ethans: Canada doesn’t have a refugee crisis, it has a crisis of confidence
In the last two years, as irregular border crossings have increased, migration has become a hot button issue. And discussions on the UN Global Compact on Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration have recently brought our migration policy to the forefront of Canadian political debate.
As Dec. 18 is International Migrants Day, it seems an appropriate time to remind Canadians: There is no refugee crisis.
According to Public Safety Canada, approximately 318 migrants a month cross our border.&n -

Cohen: London, at Christmas, braces for Brexit and awaits a saviour
LONDON – If you are searching for Christmas, London is not a bad place to start. History and eccentricity meet here in perfect balance.
The government of Theresa May is tottering on the tip of Big Ben as Britain prepares to crash out of the European Union. By spring, without an agreement, there will be lines, shortages, rising prices and a full-blown economic crisis. But hell, let’s hoist another pint and take another ride on the London Eye.

This weekend marks your last chance to see The Hockey Sweater: A Musical, the latest incarnation of Roch Carrier’s beloved childhood story. Denley: Ottawa council chairs – Watson's wishes will be their command
Ottawa voters have let Mayor Jim Watson down rather badly. We did not elect nearly enough of his favoured candidates, leaving him desperately short of acceptable people to fill the main roles on council. Once he discarded the ones he doesn’t like, the ones who will not automatically support him on every vote and the ones who might run against him next time, the pickings were slim.

This is not an irregular occurrence on Walkley Road. People drive as if it is an autobahn.
Traffic-calming measures need to be put in place. -

In more than a few places, the road is elevated and the guardrails few and far between. On a recent trip to a w -
