  Joe-Bryan Ndikuriyo charged out of an east-end bar on the early morning of Nov. 6, 2016 with a broken beer bottle and plunged its jagged edge into Solomon Odekunle’s neck, severing Odekunle’s jugular vein and carotid artery.
  Odekunle staggered to a nearby concrete median and collapsed, court heard during Ndikuriyo’s second-degree murder trial. Odekunle died in hospital about an hour later. Ndikuriyo fled, leaving a trail of blood.

  Ottawa firefighters rushed to the scene of a house fire in New Edinburgh early Sunday morning. No one was in the home at the time.
  Ottawa Fire got a 911 call reporting smoke and flames coming from 100 Ivy Cres., only a few blocks from the grounds of Rideau Hall.
  Fire crews declared a working fire upon arrival at 5:33 a.m. The fire was declared under control at 7:43 a.m.
  Damage is estimated at $350,000 to the house, and $50,000 to the contents.
