The City of Ottawa wants to hike the transit levy on property tax bills by 3.5 per cent next year, more than what it had expected in a long-range funding plan for transit services.
A budget report published Friday ahead of a council meeting next Wednesday recommends the 3.5-per-cent transit levy increase because 2019 will be a “transition year,” considering the anticipated launch of the Confederation Line LRT.

Cyclist ID'd in fatal Macdonald parkway collision
A cyclist has died after he was struck by a taxi on the Sir John A. Macdonald Parkway early Friday morning.
The RCMP has identified the victim as Junfeng Wu, a 40-year-old Ottawa resident.
First responders were called to the crash near Onigam Street at 6:46 a.m.
Paramedics said Wu was pronounced dead at 7:08 a.m.

Hundreds of well-dressed food and music lovers walked the red carpet in downtown Ottawa on Thursday night before they noshed on exotic tacos, Asian dumplings, mini burgers, gargantuan doughnuts and more, all to the thumping beat of a hard-grooving live band.

Campers spend frigid night at Lansdowne Park for homeless youth
More than 650 people prepared to camp outside at Lansdowne Park on Thursday night for a Youth Services Bureau fundraising event known as SleepOut for Youth.
