Rebel MPP Amanda Simard vows to continue fighting against francophone service cuts
Rebel Tory MPP Amanda Simard doesn’t seem to be ready to take a qualified yes for an answer from her boss, Premier Doug Ford, who has softened changes he had announced to proposed cuts to francophone institutions.
Simard, the rookie member for largely francophone Glengarry-Prescott-Russell riding, on Saturday tweeted a one-word message, “Résistons (Resist)” accompanied by a letter signed by 111 “francophone and francophile” jurists who supported her oppositio -
Laid-back visitors crowd Cannabis and Hemp Expo
The scene was busy, but appropriately laid-back, as thousands attended the second day of the second annual Cannabis & Hemp Trade Show at the Shaw Centre on Saturday.
Attendees wandered the conference centre halls to check out goods and services that are springing up now that recreational cannabis is legal in Canada.
“It’s an opportunity for cannabis consumers and those curious about the industry to learn about new products, find out about companies they may want to invest in, and -

For the time being anyway.

Kingston police arrest fourth child porn suspect in month
A 50-year-old Kingston man faces charges of possessing and accessing child porn following a tip that began with Google.
Police said the internet giant reported in May to U.S. authorities that child porn images were uploaded to a Google Photos account.
The U.S. National Center for Missing and Exploited Children tracked the IP address on the account to Kingston, and looped in the RCMP’s National Child Exploitation Coordination Centre.
On Oct. 11, Kingston’s internet child exploita -

Today's letters: Don't attack French language rights, Premier Doug Ford
Remember the Montfort, Premier
Re: Province cuts three offices created to act as watchdogs, Nov. 15.
I don’t think Premier Doug Ford knew what was coming when he decided to attack Franco-Ontarians. I suppose that no one in his entourage was around when Mike Harris tried to close l’Hôpital Montfort 20 years ago. Franco-Ontarians mobilized and fought back. The battle lasted five years and in the end, the courts said that a “financial reason” is not enough to -
Richardson: Spoiler alert – Love Actually isn't actually about love
As we head towards the holiday season, I decided to re-watch the 2003 movie Love Actually because my high school English students tell me it’s their favourite. I remember enjoying the romantic comedy when it came out and was curious to see how its portrayal of love holds up in light of the tectonic shifts in attitude around #MeToo. Have things ever changed.
Released midway through Tony Blair’s stint as U.K. prime minister, Love Actually offers an idealistic representation of a post-c -
Peter Bethlenfalvy: Personal finance lessons should apply to public spending

After 15 years of Liberal mismanagement, our government is working hard to reduce the province’s $347-billion debt while making life more affordable for all individuals, families and businesses. We are determined to meet this challenge by using the 2018 Fall Economic Statement as a solution to monitor public spending while also creating profitable growth strategies for the province.
