An Ottawa-based team is aiming to open Canada’s first research-based mental health clinic for first responders early in 2019.
The ground-breaking project has two prongs. First, to talk to city police officers, firefighters and paramedics to find out what they want and need from a clinic geared to first responders. The second will be opening an outpatient clinic for a one-year pilot project.

The far-flung members of Way North find ways to make potent folk-jazz together
Ottawa saxophonist Petr Cancura admits he’s been in a few projects that were one-album wonders.
“I think a lot of co-op projects last one recording and that’s that … I’ve been in a number of those,” he says.
But in comparison, Way North, the leaderless folk-jazz quartet that includes Cancura, trumpeter Rebecca Hennessy, bassist Michael Herring and drummer Richie Barshay, has staying power.
“Everybody loves everybody,” Cancura says. “There is -

Adam: In the next Ottawa city election, we need more people voting
The municipal election is over and now we look ahead to a new era of open, transparent government.
But as we do that, it is important to reflect on why so many of us failed to vote. Of the 633,946 eligible voters locally, 269, 772 voted, a measly 42.55-per-cent turnout, up from the woeful 39.92 per cent in 2014. Year after year, election after election, we moan about low turnout but do nothing concrete to alleviate the problem. That must change, and all of us – city council, citizens and c -

Statistics Canada wants to know how much you'd pay for cannabis
Statistics Canada appears to be wrapping up a year-long poll to monitor the price that Canadians are willing to pay for cannabis.
The federal statistician has been collecting data on the topic since at least January. Now, the question of the month for November is: “Cannabis has been legalized, and Statistics Canada is measuring prices before and after the change in legislation. We want to hear from consumers—what price are you willing to pay?”
