The project is a partnership between the National Capital Commission and the RendezVous LeBreton Group, whose main investors are the Ottawa Senators and Trinity Developments.
City hall has a huge role to play in the land-use planning approvals for the redevelopment, even if the project is on federal land. Planning approval is the one big power -

The parkways (Gatineau, Champlain, Fortune Lake and Philippe Lake) normally close for the seaon on the fourth Sunday of October.

Prelude to a disaster: Book from Monty Python's Michael Palin recalls early success of Franklin expedition ships
On a June evening, 300 guests in fancy dress boarded a Royal Navy ship in Australia to dine on chicken, pies, pastries and jellies, washed down with wine, port, sherry and champagne.
The captain’s cabin and gunroom were decorated and filled with mirrors and bottles of eau de cologne, to serve as “ladies’ dressing rooms.”
Then the jovial company crossed the gangway to a second Navy ship and danced on the deck until 6 a.m. A sergeant of marines noted in his diary the follow -

Paris: Historic portage on Ottawa River needs recognition, not neglect
Along the Quebec shore of the Ottawa River, partly concealed by tangled brush and strewn with garbage, lies a remarkable and neglected piece of Canadian history: a 5,000-year-old portage that served as a highway and campsite for Indigenous Peoples and European explorers until the mid-19th century.
The path skirts the Little Chaudière Rapids between Brébeuf Park and (the unfortunately named) Squaw Bay. It is one of the few remaining original portages of the historic Ottawa River can -

MacDougall: We need to get off the treadmill of instant opinion

It's here! (maybe): 'First measurable snowfall' in the weekend forecast
Forget about Halloween, it might look like Christmas out there this weekend with up to 5 cm of snow threatening.
Environment Canada issued a special weather statement Friday morning warning that a low-pressure system approaching from the south could bring the “first measurable snowfall event of the season” late on Saturday and into Sunday morning.
It might miss us but we could be in for 2 to 5 cm of snow with higher amounts on higher terrain and ice pellets along the American bo -

Egan: Fake Christian landlord creates devilish dilemma in Ottawa rental scam
When Marc Dionne and his wife saw the ad for the four-bedroom townhouse in south Ottawa — gleaming with wall-to-wall renovations — at $1,200 a month, it looked too good to be true.
It was, in ways they never imagined.
Dionne, 65, called this week to remind the public about one of the most common and nefarious scams on the internet: the “poseur” landlord.
The online ad on Craigslist described a home for rent in the Bank Street and Albion Road area: four bedrooms, two baths -

Today's letters: Demand openness about Canada's arms deal with Saudis
Demand transparency on Saudi and other arms deals
Re: Penalty for cancelling Saudi arms contract ‘in the billions’: Trudeau, Oct. 25.
For many years, Canada (that means Canadian citizens) has distanced itself from the shameful sales of military goods by wrapping them under the cloak of the Canadian Commercial Corporation (CCC), a Crown Corporation with one shareholder: Canada.
On an ever-expanding basis, CCC has been waving our Canadian flag plus the benefits of a “sovereign gu -

Rubin: Ottawa's LRT — the secrecy continues
Ironically, it was on municipal election day – when the public gets to exercise its democratic rights directly – that a City of Ottawa official confirmed to me there are yet more secret LRT records.
This time, it’s some 100,000 pages or reports since 2014 from Ottawa’s Transportation Services Directorate detailing its observations, including photos, of the delayed, multi-billion-dollar LRT project.
I found that these records existed when I recently pressed the city t -
