Adam Picard said he stood shaking and terrified as two mysterious olive-skinned men with thick foreign accents shot and killed Fouad Nayel with Picard’s shotgun in an isolated rendez-vous in June 2012.
Testifying in his own defence for the second day, Picard described a Hollywood-thriller-style meet-up on a remote dirt road near Calabogie, where Nayel told Picard he intended to buy a kilogram of cocaine from the mystery men.
It was an unplanned side trip for Picard, who said Nayel had orig

Plucked from a pipe, 'Piper' the kitten finds new home
A six-week-old kitten didn’t just make a lucky escape from sump pump pipe Thursday, thanks to a local plumbing company, but the little feline also found a “forever” home.
Ottawa Stray Cat Rescue knew who to call when the wee tabby escaped a foster home in North Gower through a window and hid in a sump pump discharge line.
The president of their board, Dave Smythe, who owns DS Plumbing with his wife, Wendy, headed to the scene, fearing the kitten might have drowned.

Back by popular demand: Greystone Village unveils River Terraces II condominium tower
The River Terraces, a boutique condominium tower in Greystone Village is almost sold out with only five per cent availability remaining. Its very success is why a second tower, aptly named The River Terraces II, is hitting the market this month.
The 26-acre site is located in the heart of Ottawa, nestled beside the Rideau River and near the Rideau Canal, historic neighborhoods like the Glebe and Centretown and just a short distance from attractions like Lansdowne Park, Elgin Street and the Bywar -

Editorial: Since cannabis will be legal, let's not regulate it to death in Ottawa
With only days to go until recreational cannabis is legal, the euphoria traditionally associated with the product is being seriously reduced by the buzz-kill of bureaucracy. In an oh-so-Ottawa kind of way, our city is getting tangled up in the urge to make the newly legal intoxicant very difficult to consume.
If there is one thing the bureaucratic mind loves more than rules, it is consistency in rules. Imagine the chaos and confusion if people were allowed to smoke weed at Confederation Park but -

"It's not just a home, it's art": The late Bill Teron's spectacular Kanata home is on the market
It’s easy to imagine design visionary Bill Teron chuckling with delight as a gaggle of impressed design students recently scampered over his beloved home in the Kanata Rockeries, furiously sketching images of a house melding with nature.
One young man was completely oblivious to danger, with his long legs dangling over the edge of the green roof, white sneakers knocking against the glass wall. He was busy drawing the greenery and shimmering ponds that embrace this home of curves.

Concert review: Justin Timberlake at CTC
Justin Timberlake pulled out all the stops on Thursday with an elaborate concert at Canadian Tire Centre that heightened the experience of his song-and-dance routine with state-of-the-art production techniques, and brought a genre-mashing approach designed to draw everyone together.
