Michael LeBlanc testified, “It was my life or his,” when he stabbed Mohammad Ali Hassan to death, telling the jury the two were settling a score over drugs in Lawson Park when a knife fight broke out.
Wearing a dark blazer and dress shirt, tattoos peaking out from his collar and shirtsleeves and his black hair pulled back, LeBlanc moved from the prisoner’s box to the witness stand on Friday to testify in his own defence at his second-degree murder trial.

Winter tires saved youngster in two-storey fall, neighbours say
Neighbours of a four-year-old boy who fell from a second-floor window Wednesday night in the Cummings/Cyrville neighbourhood say a stack of four winter tires immediately below the window may have saved the child’s life.
Roland Arsenault, who lives two doors down in the Hendon Way row housing, where the incident occurred, said he was smoking a cigarette in his backyard at about 9:30 p.m., moments before the youngster fell.
“The window was open and he was pushing against the screen,&rd -

Mayoral candidate deletes video shot in tornado zone that criticized Watson
A now-deleted YouTube video of mayoral candidate Clive Doucet standing in the middle of the tornado damage on Greenbank Road and criticizing Mayor Jim Watson was posted by mistake, Doucet’s communications director said Friday.
“That was not an official campaign video and should not have been posted. That was a mistake and that’s why it was taken down,” said Anne-Marie Roy.
“The video was shot while Clive was feeling particularly emotional looking at the devastation -

Reevely: Ontario's Drive Clean program to die in April as Tories shift focus to heavy trucks' exhaust
The Drive Clean program that has tested Ontario’s cars to make sure they don’t pollute too much has served its purpose and will be cancelled next April, Premier Doug Ford announced Friday, but operators of heavy trucks can expect tougher testing of what comes out of their exhaust pipes.
This should save $40 million and end an annoyance for people who drive cars that are more than seven years old, who need to get their vehicle emissions tested before they can renew licence stickers.

Deadly wasting disease found in farmed Outaouais deer, hundreds culled
Chronic wasting disease in deer has been confirmed for the first time in Quebec, on a game farm that has led Quebec to cancel the fall deer hunt in the area north of Grenville, opposite Hawkesbury.
The Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters says this is a “huge” threat to both Ontario and Quebec deer and moose, and to hunting.
However the disease is not believed to be transmissible to humans.
One sick deer was identified on a deer farm on Sept. 10, leading Quebec officials to kill -

Kurl: Cannabis countdown – a surprising number of people now skeptical
If ever the country was in need of a national mellowing out, it’s arguably now. U.S. President Donald Trump is back to his flame-throwing on NAFTA, the pipeline file remains a twisted pretzel of uncertainty, the Saudis want us to say sorry to them, we want Myanmar’s Aung San Suu Kyi to say sorry to us (or at least, stop willingly presiding over a humanitarian disaster) and our Governor General just doesn’t seem to be that into her job. Too much is happening! No wonder we’ -
