Nigel Olsson on 50 years of drumming for Sir Elton: 'It’s all from the heart'
When Elton John brings his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour to Canadian Tire Centre on Friday night, the drum kit will be occupied by Nigel Olsson, who’s been keeping the beat for the pop superstar for 50 years. In this interview with Lynn Saxberg, the 69-year-old Englishman, who once had a hit of his own in Canada, reveals his lifelong fear of the stage, his dislike of drum solos and what life will be like after his boss retires from the road. (The interview was edited for length).

With so many agencies involved in tornado relief, where do you donate?
A caller who won money from CFRA this week put the radio station in a quandary when he offered his winnings to a tornado victim — and started a run of similar offers from other listeners.
During Evan Solomon’s afternoon show, a caller wanted to donate his earnings from an on-air contest to the Lowden family, whose home was torn to shreds last Friday. In spur-of-the-moment fashion, around $900 was raised within 10 minutes.
The organic fundraising blitz sent the station scrambling to m -

A necessary evil? The story behind the unusual price hikes in Ottawa restaurants
If you want to upset Donna Chevrier, an Ottawa restaurant-industry veteran who these days is the queen of the city’s gourmet tacos, tell her that the food at Ola Cocina, her cosy Vanier eatery, is overpriced.
“I have been at this for 35 years. I have seen a lot and been through a lot,” Chevrier says. “Yet still, every time someone writes a bad review and includes the line ‘it was expensive,’ it is gut-wrenching and hard to take.”

Soucy: Why you should vote in Ottawa's Oct. 22 municipal election
On Oct. 22, 2018, residents across Ontario will go to the polls to elect their municipal representatives. Once every four years, the people have a choice to make. This should be a most welcome occasion for citizens to show their city leaders whether or not they agree with the current direction of governance.
Yet in Ottawa, as in many other democracies, many citizens don’t realize the significance of voting. Following the 2014 municipal election, the Ottawa Citizen reported that roughly fou -

Adam: In Bay ward, it's a clash of the (local) political titans
There’s no party politics in municipal elections, but dig deep in Bay ward and the undercurrents of partisan politics are hard to miss. What you’ll also find is a family dynamic that’s raising the political temperature even higher.
Bay is an open seat, and five candidates are running to replace the departing Mark Taylor: Erica Dath, Don Dransfield, Theresa Kavanagh, Marc Lugert and Trevor Robinson. Dath, Robinson and Lugert will no doubt give it their all, but the race is reall -
Supporters rally to help robots left homeless by fire in home 'pod'
Ottawa isn’t just rallying to help homeless humans.
