Science and Tech Museum has "suspended" collecting artifacts to save space
The Canada Science and Technology Museum has a plan to deal with its new, but undersized storage building.
The museum has stopped collecting artifacts, at least for now.
It is also reducing the size of its existing collection to free up space, donating items to other museums or selling them “as a last resort.”
The museum will move its collection — tens of thousands of artifacts — into the new four-storey storage building on St. Laurent Boulevard when construction is -
Reevely: Ministers sidestep query about Ottawa wards amid ugly Queen's Park question period
In a savage question period at Queen’s Park Wednesday, Ottawa’s senior provincial minister wouldn’t say whether the Ontario government will respect the city’s decisions about how many councillors it needs after the 2022 election.
The provincial politicians were back in the legislature so the Progressive Conservatives could introduce a fresh law to cut the number of city councillors in Toronto from 47 to 25. They’re using the “notwithstanding clause” in t -

This was sent to Defence Watch:
It is with mixed emotions that today I announce my retirement from the position of Department of National Defence and Canadian Armed Forces Ombudsman and the Public Service, as of 31 October 2018.
As I come to the end of my time, I am overwhelmed by various emotions and thoughts. First of all is the gratitude I have for all members of the Defence Community. To have had this opportunity has been the most rewarding part of my career without exception.

It ain't easy being green: Environmental studies slow down, bump cost of new Gatineau arena by $1.3M
The cost of Gatineau’s new hockey complex has just risen by more than $1.3 million, driven by a delay to study western chorus frogs and other environmental factors.
Gatineau taxpayers will pick up the entire increase in costs announced this week, while the province and the private developer of the new four-rink complex will pay the same as they expected from the start.
The increase still has to be approved by Gatineau council at its Sept. 18 meeting.
The city says delays in getting started -

Ottawa LRT construction received numerous fails from city building inspectors, documents reveal
Parts of Ottawa’s $2.1-billion LRT project failed inspections by city building inspectors, who walked away unsatisfied by some of the work they saw at construction sites.
Many of the failed inspections between Jan. 1, 2015, and Sept. 20, 2017, were related to plumbing and fire safety, according to more than 400 reports reviewed by this newspaper through an access-to-information request.
Inspectors reviewed various parts of the construction, such as mechanical, plumbing, foun -
Out of the fog emerges a string of summery days
Wednesday should bring some welcome weather with highs in the mid-20s that will linger through early next week.
The dense fog patches covering parts of the city will burn off in the morning under mixed skies and a high of 24 C that will feel more like 30, Environment Canada predicts. The UV index is 7 or high.
The fog is expected to roll back in Wednesday evening with a low of 11 C.
Thursday should be sunny after those fog patches dissipate then become mixed skies near noon with a sticky high of -
Today's letters: Students taking the heat, death penalty debates
The school year is not getting hotter
Re: Students swelter as heat wave highlights lack of classroom air conditioning, Sept. 5.
I agree that students should not suffer from lack of air conditioning in schools, but data from Environment Canada indicate that this is not a problem in Ottawa.
Since 2008, Ottawa has averaged 1.4 days per year that were 30 degrees or above in September. This year there have been two such days, and one of those was not a school day. There is no indication the aver -

Cohen: Why the New York Times' anonymous oped was a courageous act of patriotism
Some 23,000 readers had contacted The New York Times by the end of last week not altogether pleased by the commentary that it published by an anonymous senior official in the administration of Donald Trump.
“Why publish this?” asked Henry Matthews of New York. “What purpose does it serve, other than to enrage its target and assuage the guilt of a collaborator? We have a mad king and a shadow government. This is a coup, not a heroic attempt to save democracy.”
That critici -

Egan: When rubber meets, then leaves the road — our love affair with speed bumps
Kirkwood Avenue is undergoing more traffic “calming.” Out where rubber leaves the road, the nervous breakdown edges closer.
First the mid-west street was four lanes, then it was two-ish, with some parking and some bulb-outs. It once had no speed bumps, then it had some, then the “some” were adjusted, and now it has more. I know this because the first time I drove over this summer’s new speed bump — technically called a “hump” — the car nearly -
