Ottawa police are investigating and a 24-year-old is in custody after an incident involving the Ceremonial Guard on Parliament Hill on Monday.
However, the Parliamentary Protective Service now says the man was not carrying a knife as initially reported.

Man with knife stopped as he tried to attack Ceremonial Guard on Parliament Hill
Ottawa police are investigating after a man tried to stab a member of the Ceremonial Guard on Parliament Hill Monday.
Department of National Defence official Daniel Le Bouthillier said the incident took place Monday at 10:15 a.m. on the lawn of Parliament Hill, during the Changing of the Guard parade.

The Boy Who Lived and the NAC will meet in January for a special screening of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone featuring a live soundtrack performed by the arts centre’s orchestra.

Pedestrian serious but stable after Vanier crash
Paramedics rushed a man in his 60s to hospital in serious but stable condition after he was struck by a vehicle as he walked in Vanier early Monday afternoon.

81-year-old man robbed of casino winnings chases down suspect with his car
An 81-year-old man took matters into his own hands Sunday afternoon after he was relieved of his casino winnings at an east-end ATM.
The man chased down the robbery suspect with his car, cornered the man in a nearby alley and retrieved his cash, police said. Officers made an arrest shortly after.

Man, 39, in court Monday on Pembroke stabbing
A 39-year-old man was scheduled to appear in court in Pembroke Monday to face charges including assault causing bodily harm after a stabbing on Bronx Street Friday.
An “altercation involving an edged weapon” happened at about 8 p.m., OPP said.
Paramedics took the victim, a 28-year-old man, to hospital with unspecified injuries while the accused was held over the weekend for a bail hearing.
The incident is still under investigation, OPP said. -

Public health officials are warning people they’ll “swim at their own risk” if they take a dip at the Petrie Island East Bay beach.

A string of new power outages struck Algonquin College Monday morning just as the campus was getting back to normal after losing power Friday.

Both directions of Highway 417 closing overnight Saturday to raze Harmer bridge
The city is warning of “significant delays” as Highway 417 closes Saturday afternoon into Sunday morning for a demolition kicking off the two-year, $13.5-million replacement of the Harmer Avenue Pedestrian Bridge.
Both directions of the highway will be closed from Bronson Avenue to Carling Avenue from 5 p.m. Saturday to 11 a.m. Sunday while the 1963 bridge is razed.

A $64-million program that was helping cash-strapped hospitals save millions on electricity bills is among the provincial programs that have been cut as a result of the scrapping of cap and trade in Ontario.
