Multimillion-dollar cycling plans at Ottawa City Hall could be delayed as the Progressive Conservative provincial government bails from the greenhouse gas cap-and-trade scheme.
The city received $9.7 million from the Ontario Municipal Commuter Cycling Program (OMCCP) this year and has counted on more money flowing from the fund to help pay for future projects. The city learned earlier this month that the PCs are ending the program.

Science of summer: A researcher's quest to catch 10,000 fish
Postmedia’s popular Science of Summer series is back, in its usual on-again, off-again way. Today Tom Spears looks at a Carleton University team that is hoping to put identification tags on 10,000 fish in the Rideau system, a long-term project to understand where fish travel.
It takes only three or four seconds to tag a fish, attaching a tiny blue ID label with a little gun that can also put price tags on clothing.
But first you have to catch a fish. That takes longer.

Reevely: As throne speech calls for unity, Tories face task of leading Ontario, not just their supporters
Ontarians must unite behind the new Progressive Conservative government’s agenda, Lt.-Gov. Elizabeth Dowdeswell said in Thursday’s speech from the throne, because the world is too uncertain for us to risk anything else.
The ceremonial speech lays out what the government intends to do over the next few months. It’s traditionally an occasion of grandeur, with buglers and big-gun salutes on the legislature grounds. The elected government supplies the speech and the Queen&rsqu -

CHEO summer camp offers young adults with disabilities a crash course in independent living
As far as summer camps go, activities during the week-long Project B.L.O.O.M. are on the more practical end of the spectrum — but that doesn’t mean participants aren’t having fun as they’re learning independent living skills.
Eighteen-year-old Isaiah Davis disappeared Thursday during an “adulting” scavenger hunt across the Algonquin College campus, where he and seven other young people with disabilities were spending the week, practicing daily life in a more a -

Poll: So far, how do you rate the Progressive Conservative government?
Ontario’s new Progressive Conservative government vowed Thursday to bring in sweeping changes meant to restore public trust in the province in a throne speech that played up promises made by Premier Doug Ford during the spring election campaign.
The government has been given “a clear mandate from Ontarians” to carry out its vision at a pivotal time for the province, the speech said.

Kaplan: Trudeau groping affair shows overbaked moralizing hurts debate
It would perhaps be an understatement to say that the Justin Trudeau groping incident has highlighted the dangers of building a political brand based on excessive moralizing.
For that is the real lesson behind this mini-scandal. What should anger everyone – regardless of political affiliation – is the cynical and domineering weaponization of morality by the Trudeau government. It is a type of political warfare which, until now, the federal Liberals seemed to have perfected like no ot -

Adam: Can we please deal with the refugee issue like adults?
After days of name-calling and one-upmanship between the Ontario and federal governments over asylum-seekers flooding into Canada, it’s good to see that calmer heads have now prevailed. We need our leaders, irrespective of political persuasion, to work together – not fire volleys at each other.
What’s happening on our borders and in cities is a humanitarian crisis too important to be turned into political football. This should not become a wedge issue exploited for political ga -
