25 residents displaced in Concord Street apartment fire
Twenty people were forded to evacuate their apartments on Monday after fire erupted at 135 Concord St. South in Old Ottawa East.
Ottawa Fire Services said the blaze, which was elevated to a two-alarm fire, was at 8:14 a.m.; it was under control by 9:15.
The units in the nine-apartment building will not be habitable, and 25 people have been displaced, Ottawa Fire said.
The fire was in the ceilings between the second and third floor and the roof.

Firefighters contain bedroom fire on Parkland Crescent
A family of four were forced to evacuate their home on Monday after Ottawa firefighters were called to respond to a fire that started in the home’s bedroom.
Just after noon, Ottawa Fire Services responded to a call on Parkland Crescent that a mattress was on fire in a second-floor bedroom of a single-family home. Firefighters were able to contain the blaze relatively quickly, and by 12:30 they had declared the fire under control.

On this post-Canada Day holiday Monday, the bright side is that there’s no expectation that you’ll be downtown standing in the heat.
At noon, Environment Canada issued a severe thunderstorm watch with possible isolated wind gusts of 90 km/hour.
Scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop near Petawawa early this afternoon and reach the Ottawa area between 3 and 4 p.m.. The threat for thunderstorms will end in all areas by 6 p.m.

Ottawa woman suffers serious injuries in aquatic hit and run
The Sûreté du Québec say they are looking for the driver of a jet ski that fled the scene after hitting an Ottawa woman on the Gatineau river, about 25 kilometres south of Maniwaki.
The woman, a 26-year-old woman from the Ottawa area, was taken to an Ottawa hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Police said they were not sure which hospital in Ottawa she was taken to.

'Perfect timing' for vocalist surprised by Canada Day marriage proposal at NAC concert
Vanessa Williams always told Allan Trim, if he was going to propose marriage, he should make sure it wasn’t on Christmas or her birthday, and “definitely not” on Valentine’s Day.

Cooling system breakdown forces Mint to bump free tours and activities to Monday
