Repairs to broken Centretown watermain will continue into Thursday
Efforts to repair a major watermain break in Centretown will keep two sections of road closed until at least midday Thursday.
The City of Ottawa had hoped to have the work completed by late Wednesday afternoon, but said the repairs are taking longer than expected.
“Repairs are expected to be complete by Thursday midday,” said Carol Hall, manager of water distribution. “Crews are working closely with partners to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.”

Weather: Fine day for democracy, but chance of showers
It’s looking like a great day for democracy, at least weatherwise, Thursday as the temperatures continue to climb back towards normal levels.
The high is expected to be about 22 C and the UV index is around 7 or high.
There is, however, a 30 per cent chance of showers in the morning and afternoon.
Tonight should see a few clouds with moderate-to-light winds and a low of about 12 C.
Friday is looking even better with sunny skies and a high of about 23 C. But dig out the sunscreen, the -
Elections Ontario has 'utmost confidence' in new vote-counting machines but also has backup plan
This election will be Ontario’s first with electronic vote-counting machines, which Elections Ontario hopes will make results faster and more accurate.
The machines come from Dominion Voting Systems, which is based in Toronto but works worldwide. They cost $32 million and are a partial solution to a problem the agency says it has finding tens of thousands of people to work one very long day, monitoring balloting and counting after polls close at 9 p.m. It expected to need over 100,000 work -

Reevely: Ontario needs you to vote
Amid their final whimpers of this weirdo election campaign, Ontario’s parties spent some of Wednesday urging their supporters to make specific plans to vote.
“Do you know when you’ll be voting?” an emailed blast from the Progressive Conservative campaign asked. “In the morning before work? On a break? After work? Will you be driving there? Bringing friends or family? You need to have answers to these questions.”
“If you haven’t voted yet, -
Hypothetical vacation. Hypothetical bus crash. But the nightmare is real
It’s a nightmarish scenario: You’re on a tour bus, on vacation in a foreign country, and suddenly you’re injured in a crash. You don’t speak the language, and family and friends are half a world away.
This is the situation a group of Chinese tourists found themselves in on Monday, after the tour bus they were riding on Highway 401 veered into a rock cut near Prescott, killing one man and critically injuring several others.

Elections Ontario warns Ottawa-Vanier voters to double-check polling location
Voters in Ottawa-Vanier should double-check where their polling location is after incorrect information was inadvertently sent to voters by the campaign team of Liberal candidate Nathalie Des Rosiers.
Jessica Pellerin, a spokesperson for Elections Ontario, confirmed on Wednesday that information distributed in the riding “may be incorrect,” and reiterated that voters should check directly with Elections Ontario if they are unsure about where to vote.

Bus crash near Prescott invigorates discussion around Highway 401 lane expansion
The conversation about safety on Highway 401 through Eastern Ontario has intensified following Monday’s tour bus crash near Prescott.
Truck and bus drivers who frequent the 401 said they’d welcome a lane addition in this and other areas of the highway, citing congestion issues.
Robert Perry, a transport truck driver whose main run is between Toronto and Montreal, said he agrees “110 per cent” with Prescott Mayor Brett Todd’s call for a third lane on the 401 in both -
