Man revived by first responders after overdose, purple heroin suspected
Ottawa police say they used naloxone Tuesday morning to revive a man who they suspect had overdosed on “purple heroin,” a combination of heroin, fentanyl, and other opioids like morphine that has become increasingly common in Ontario over the past year.
“This morning, several Ottawa police officers were able to revive a man in a suspected drug overdose after using their service-issued naloxone,” said police in a press release.

Tour bus company in 401 crash has good safety record
The bus involved in a traumatic crash on Highway 401 Monday belongs to a tour company with a good safety history, according to a public records search, with no previous collisions reported.
Union Tour Express Inc., based outside Boston, operates 15 vehicles and employs 28 drivers, according to the U.S. Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.
The company has been inspected 112 times during the last 12 months. Of those, 96 found no violation while 16 others found relatively minor problems.

Four teens injured in single-vehicle crash in Gatineau Park
Four teenagers were injured in a single-vehicle crash on Champlain Parkway near Kingsmere Lake in Gatineau Park Monday evening.
Responders said they were called shortly before 6 p.m. and found the vehicle had left the road and crashed into the trees.
The victims, two 17-year-old females and two 18-year-old males were taken to the Hull Hospital’s trauma unit with multiple minor injuries.
The injuries were not considered life-threatening. The RCMP is investigating the crash.

When Ed Pollitt’s wife died there were many aspects of his life that changed drastically. At 81 years old, he didn’t imagine he would have to learn new skills like cooking for himself.
“Being an old-school man, we never cooked. I was terrified of cooking. I saw it as a magic ritual only women understood,” said Pollitt, who joked that without the help of The Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre he would have become a Kraft Dinner advocate.

Passenger in 401 tourist bus crash dies of his injuries; four others in life-threatening
A 54-year-old passenger on a bus loaded with Chinese tourists that crashed on Highway 401 has died of his injuries, the OPP said Tuesday morning.
Four other passengers remain in hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said.

Man charged after OPP confiscates guns, drugs in raid
Ontario Provincial Police have arrested a 29-year-old North Dundas man following a raid last week that netted a number of firearms and illicit drugs.
A number of different OPP units were involved in the raid on a property on County Road 7, including the community street crime unit, the emergency response team, the tactical rescue unit and Stormont Dundas and Glengarry OPP officers.
Police seized marijuana, marijuana plants, methamphetamine, speed pills, cocaine and cash.

Downtown traffic was slow Tuesday as after a broken watermain flooded the intersection of O’Connor and Nepean streets.

Gatineau police increase patrols after luring attempt on schoolboy
Gatineau police will maintain an increased presence for the foreseeable future in the area of Clément and Sabourin streets after a young schoolboy was allegedly approached by a suspicious man Monday morning.
Police say the incident occurred at about 8:15 a.m. when the boy, who attends La Traversée school, was waiting for a bus.
A man, estimated to be 50-60 years, allegedly approached the child and tried to lure him into his vehicle.
The boy fled to a car driven by an adult he knew. -

Joint Support Ship cost up by $1.1 billion β taxpayers will now spend $3.4 billion on project
Taxpayers will have to spend $1.1 billion extra on new navy supply ships that are going to be built starting this summer, the Liberal government now acknowledges.
Previously the cost of building the two ships at Seaspan shipyards in Vancouver, BC had been pegged at $2.3 billion.
But the government ordered a review of that cost figure and in an email to Postmedia, Procurement Minister Carla Qualtrough’s office now confirms the cost for the Joint Support Ships, or JSS, is set at $3.4 billion -
OPP officer 'very, very sorry' for theft of drugs, cash from crime suspects
A Leeds County OPP officer who stole drugs and money from suspects, including $10,000 he stashed in the rafters of his Maitland home, will be sentenced Sept. 27.
George Duke, who pleaded guilty to six theft, drug and firearms charges last January, was contrite and apologetic when he appeared at his sentencing hearing on Monday.

Cornwall strike continues as municipal workers reject contract offer
Striking City of Cornwall employees represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees rejected city contract offers in a Monday vote.
CUPE said the staffers, whose four locals include inside and outside workers, Cornwall pulbic library staff, and Cornwall / SDG paramedics, rejected the offers by an average of 92.5 per cent. Each local’s offer was voted on separately after CUPE agreed late last week to have its members vote on what the city had called its final offer.
