The good news is that construction in the downtown core shouldn’t significantly affect Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend in May.
Wait until 2019, though.
“Elgin Street next year will be, at least from what we are hearing, significantly more impacted,” race director John Halvorsen says. “Of course, you know things aren’t necessarily that famous in Ottawa for being on time when it comes to construction schedules. I’m not panicking yet, but we’ll see what happen

Elisabeth Bruyère takes step toward sainthood as Pope names her 'Servant of God'
Elisabeth Bruyère, the Grey Nun who founded Ottawa’s first hospital, moved one step closer to sainthood Saturday when she was among eight people declared a Venerable Servant of God by Pope Francis.
Bruyère was the only Canadian named a Servant of God, which means the Vatican has begun investigations to determine whether she is worthy of sainthood.
The case for Bruyère, who died in Ottawa in 1876, is the oldest being examined. She arrived in Ottawa from Montreal in 1845 -

City beefs up pothole repair program after critical audit
The city’s public works department has been on a mission to improve its pothole repair program after a stinging audit last fall.
After the auditor general discovered the city might have been using substandard asphalt, the city cancelled a contract for the supply of hot-mix asphalt used in the summer, according to a staff memo sent to council on Friday.
The memo updated politicians on steps taken by the city after the audit.
Suppliers received letters of non-compliance from the city, which -

Saturday letters: How to use that green bin
Students set example on recycling
Re: Today’s letters: Thumbs down for plastic bags in green bins, April 8.
I agree that switching to plastic bags in compost bins is a step backwards.
We are at a small OCDSB high school program in Stittsville, called Frederick Banting Alternate Site. We compost food and paper towel waste at our school to divert waste from landfills. On Fridays, prior to classes bringing their blue, black and compost to our recycle audit area outside my class, students -
Robertson: Why I worried about my kids learning about homophobia
My four-year-old twins learned about something in their junior kindergarten class that makes me uncomfortable. On Wednesday, they learned about homophobia and transphobia.
They are too young, I’d thought at first. My discomfort with this was not based on conservative morality – as perhaps it would be for some – but rather because my kids are queerspawn: the children of queer parents.
And I was worried about how they would feel to learn that we live in a society where same-sex c -
Cloutier: Here's how we'll produce a solid plan for Heron Gate
The following is written in response to an article by Raylene Lang-Dion April 6, “Train Yards and Heron Gate – a tale of two neighbourhoods“:
Large-scale urban development is never easy and when there is an existing community, it gets more complex and difficult. Navigating those tricky waters takes a steady and experienced hand because urban redevelopment needs to be successful for everyone.
I have lived in the community for 31 years, been a community association president and -
Supply ship Mark Norman fought for now on its way to support RCN during major exercise
The MV Asterix left Halifax Wednesday to support the Royal Canadian Navy, first in the Caribbean and then later in the Pacific Ocean during the Rim of the Pacific exercise that starts in June.
The ship sailed two days after the first court by Vice Admiral Mark Norman on a breach of trust charge at an Ottawa court house.
Norman is considered the driving force behind ensuring that Asterix was delivered and ready via a lease arrangement for the RCN.
It is considered a rare achievement in Cana -
