  Turning 65 this summer won’t mark retirement for Camp Banting, Canada’s oldest summer camp for children living with Type 1 diabetes, but rather a new beginning.
  Last fall, Diabetes Canada, which has run Camp Banting since the mid-1980s, said the Eastern Ontario camp would be shut down and amalgamated with another diabetes camp near Huntsville. That didn’t sit well with Banting’s backers, who felt the need to preserve their beloved institution.

  A 24-year-old has been charged with weapons offences after a man waved a replica handgun in an establishment on Hazeldean Road early Sunday.
  Police responded to a call around 1:45 a.m. to find a man brandishing a replica handgun in an establishment in the 400 block of Hazeldean, according to a media release from the Guns & Gangs unit. The man was arrested without incident, and police found a replica Glock handgun in the waist of his pants.

  Saturday evening, multiple calls were made to Ottawa police reporting shots fired at about 8:45 p.m., in the area of Morley Drive and Prince of Wales Drive.
  According to witnesses, a vehicle was involved, and a male was seen running away on foot. 
  Officers set up containment, and used the K9 unit. Both efforts were unsuccessful. 
  There were no known victims or suspects, and a police spokesman said at about 11:15 p.m. Saturday that investigators were leaving the scene.

  The Ottawa police west division said Saturday it was investigating reports of shots fired in the area near Prince of Wales Drive and Dynes Road.

  A stubborn, smoky fire at an Orléans strip mall caused an estimated “couple million dollars” in damage to six to eight businesses on Saturday afternoon.
  Alarms were sounded at about 12:35 p.m. as heavy smoke was spotted pouring from the mall on St. Joseph Boulevard near Grey Nuns Drive.
  Several businesses, including an upholstery store, were fully involved in the fire, and the first wave of firefighters were advised not to enter the buildings, instead fighting it defensively.
