  The manager of a Kanata restaurant said Saturday he didn’t hesitate to help when a young man burst into his business late Friday night saying he had been shot.
  Sam Daoud was at the front desk of the Baton Rouge steakhouse at Kanata Centrum when a panicked young man burst in, clutching a sweatshirt to his stomach.
  “He walked in and said ‘I was shot,’ ” said Daoud. The man said he had been shot “in a car on the highway.”

  A stubborn, smoky fire at an Orléans strip mall caused an estimated several million dollars in damages Saturday afternoon.
  Alarms were sounded at about 12:35 p.m. as heavy smoke was spotted pouring from the mall on St. Joseph Boulevard near Grey Nuns Drive.
  Several business, including an upholstery store, were fully involved in the fire, and the first wave of firefighters were advised not to enter the buildings.

  Ottawa firefighters have called a second alarm for a fire at an upholstery store and other businesses in an Orléans strip mall Saturday.
  Alarms were sounded just before 1 p.m. as heavy smoke was spotted pouring from the mall on St. Joseph Boulevard near Grey Nuns Drive.

  The under-use of the green bin program in Ottawa is nothing short of bizarre. It seems either people can’t handle a little grossness or haven’t bothered to look on the city’s website to figure out what can go in the bin and what cannot.

  One man was in critical condition and another was in serious, but stable condition after they were shot in Kanata on Friday evening.
  Ottawa Paramedic Service reported the two men, both in their 20s, were found injured just past 9:30 p.m. near the Kanata Centrum shopping centre.

  A man was rushed to the hospital Friday evening after being beaten and stabbed on Cumberland Street in what police believe may have been a robbery.
  First responders were called to a building near Clarence Street at 7 p.m. and found the 36-year-old victim, who was by then inside the building on an upper floor.
  Police said that the victim, whose injuries were not life-threatening, was not immediately co-operative.
