  The thing that really strikes you about Mike MacDonald’s comedic routines is their gentleness. His standup sketches from the 1980s and beyond, now immortalized on YouTube, show a genuine talent in command of his material, with a flair for physical comedy.

  The world of comedy was tweeting expressions of sorrow Saturday night at the death of Ottawa comic Mike MacDonald.

  The Citizen recently reported on a man fatally struck by a cement truck near the Ottawa Hospital. Far too many drivers exceed the speed limit on both Lynda Lane and Smyth Road, a part of the city with two hospitals and two schools. As a resident of Alta Vista, I witness this irresponsible and dangerous behaviour daily. There is very little speed enforcement on either of these roads.

  Well, it’s good weather for maple syrup, with cold nights, sun and warm(er) daytime temperatures that will tickle the sap out of the trees.

  A family of eight has been displaced after a two-alarm fire Saturday night on Russell Road.
  Ottawa Fire Services received a 911 call just after 8:30 about a bathroom fire in Unit E at 1767 Russell. After arriving at the home, the commanding officer requested a second-alarm response.
  Firefighters remained on the scene, but no injuries were reported.
  No damage estimate or cause of the fire was available, but a fire inspector had been requested.

  A dog is believed to have drowned Saturday afternoon and a 58-year-old woman was in serious condition after a water rescue call on the Ottawa River.

  The Ottawa police have asked for the public’s help in the search for 24-year-old Lucas Vigliotti.
  He was last seen Wednesday at about 2:30 p.m. in the vicinity of Wallack Private, near Conroy Road and Lorry Greenberg Drive.
  Vigliotti was described as white, 5-11 and 240 pounds, with short, brown hair. When last seen, he was wearing a black-and-white-striped Adidas track jacket, dark blue jogging pants and high-cut black running shoes. He was carrying an Adidas back pack.
