Ontario Winter Games offers to replace medals after incorrect French translation
Something was lost in translation.
And the Ontario Winter Games organizing committee plans to do something about it — by replacing some or all of the awarded medals containing a flawed French translation of the athletes’ oath.
The oath, which appeared on the back of each medal, said in English: “For the glory of sport and the honour of our teams in the spirit of true sportsmanship.”
In French, the word teams (équipes) was missing, as was the letter ‘p’ -
City seeks higher fines for pushy tow truck drivers
The City of Ottawa is asking for increased fines for tow truck drivers who breach a 100-metre buffer around a crash scene.
According to a memo to council’s community and protective services committee, the city applied to the chief justice of the Ontario Court of Justice for a “significant increase” to the penalty. The current fine is $190, but it can be reduced to $160 for early payment.
The memo from bylaw chief Roger Chapman doesn’t say what the city believes the fine s -
Egan: Busted wheelchair puts brakes on man's Cuban getaway
Darrel Scott had a serious stroke 12 years ago — collapsed outside on a frigid winter night — and had to relearn the basics, like write and hold things with his wrong hand, at age 53.
To this day, his right side is compromised, making his electric wheelchair a lifeline.
In this week of March break, when half the world is on the go, he is retelling his travel misadventure from last fall, a saga not yet over.
After research about the resort, he booked a one-week trip to Varadero, -
Carleton students feel the crunch as support staff strike drags on
As a support staff strike at Carleton University reaches the end of its second week, one student is worried the closing of a mentor program means science students will be without guidance at a critical time of the year.
Biology student Jared Browning, who’s in his sixth and final year at Carleton, said because of the strike, the Science Student Success Centre (SSSC) has been shut down. He’s worried fellow students will struggle without the peer mentoring program he voluntee -

National Gallery must change plans after Science and Tech Museum's troubles
Construction problems at the Canada Science and Technology Museum have forced the National Gallery of Canada to make fresh storage plans for some of its own collection.
The museum is building a new Collections and Conservation Centre, intended to store its own collection and some of the gallery’s as well. It will open next year.
But the design of the Collections building changed after it was first approved.
Costs went up sharply from the initial estimates. For instance, the cost of special -

Brown and Gagnon: Why we need 'safe' spaces to consume cannabis
Safe consumption of legal and illegal substances is of particular concern to Canada’s nurses. Nurses have been at the forefront of challenging political barriers that restricted the implementation of safer consumption spaces, including supervised injection services. As nurses, we know that the spaces in which substance use occurs and the laws that govern where individuals are permitted to use substances are relevant to the health of both people who use drugs and the broader public.

Adam: Doug Ford may not play well in urban Ottawa. But he doesn't have to
The so-called Ford Nation may be a powerful political force in Toronto, but how Doug Ford plays outside the 416 area will go a long way in determining whether the Progressive Conservatives can win the 63 seats they need for majority government in Ontario.
Going into this election, the Liberals hold 55 seats, the PCs, 28 and the NDP, 18. For a majority in the new 124-seat legislature, Ford must hold the PC seats and flip 35 more. To do that, he will have to take seats from Liberals everywhere, in -
