Reevely: Ontario Tories' voting turns up thousands of 'missing' members in just a few ridings
The Ontario Progressive Conservatives still have tens of thousands of iffy names on their rolls, with well under 10 per cent of their supposed members turning out to vote for a new leader in some ridings.
On Friday, party people were putting out total provincewide numbers: about 70,000 people had gone through the cumbersome process the party laid out for members to prove their identities and get online ballots to pick a successor to ex-leader Patrick Brown. About 64,000 had actually voted. -

The American music stars were among more than 50 bookings unveiled Friday for the event, which runs June 21 to July 1. They will be headlining acts playing the festival’s main stage, which, because of sewer construction work in Confederation Park, will move across Laurier Avenue to Festival Plaza.

Ottawa air traffic controller guilty of sexually abusing young girl
Ottawa’s Kenny Tattersall, a 48-year-old air traffic controller, has pleaded guilty to molesting a girl at his private airport hangar.
Tattersall started molesting the girl when she was 12 and wasn’t arrested until three years later when she summoned the courage to expose the sex predator.
The child-sex criminal was arrested and charged with a series of offences on Oct. 9, 2015 — days after he apologized to the girl by text.
He texted that he had betrayed her trust, -

Some birds flew north looking for spring. Then spring froze
Birds have migrated north in large numbers in recent weeks — an early gamble that is now forcing some to do a U-turn, and others to starve.
A number of people in Ottawa have heard Canada geese fly over noisily, beginning in late February’s mild spell.
“Thousands of geese showing up in eastern Ontario. A lot of them are actually still here,” birder Bruce Di Labio said. But with snow covering the cornfields and freezing temperatures at night, they aren’t going any far -
Editorial: Keep Trump at home
U.S. President Donald Trump has agreed to a face-to-face meeting with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un. What could go wrong? Just everything.
For example: Trump, an explicit admirer of global thugs, is duped into a deal that sees him agree to withdraw American troops from the Korean peninsular in exchange for Kim ending the North’s nuclear weapons program. Trump tweets his satisfaction and flies home. The North’s nuclear program continues, under cover and unabated.
Or: Trump arrives -

The logo for the stores is a simple, stark black circle with the acronym inside. The name and logo will be used for the stores and the online sales division, both run by the Ontario Cannabis Retail Corp.
“The name is designed to convey a safe, simple and approac -

Theatre review: How Black Mothers Say I Love You
How Black Mothers Say I Love YouBy Trey AnthonyAt Great Canadian Theatre Company to March 25Reviewed: March 8
Dysfunctional families make great theatre, and How Black Mothers Say I Love You is no exception. Once again, Anthony draws from personal experience in developing strong femal -
Obituary: Former golf pro leaves life's course on his own terms
Something has to give when a personal wish to die clashes with an innate drive to live.
Warren Grant, a popular pro who taught golf from a wheelchair at Manderley on the Green, died peacefully on Monday evening, surrounded by loved ones at Bruyère’s Saint-Vincent hospital.
The usual phrase after a person passes following a lengthy illness is that he “lost his battle.” In this case, Grant won the fight, finding the peace he earned after 71 years of wrestling lif -

Pathways: Three more builders launch in popular Findlay Creek, offering towns and singles
The choice keeps growing off Bank Street south of Leitrim Road as Richcraft becomes the ninth builder to launch sales in this popular south-end area.
Reuniting with fellow builders eQ Homes and Phoenix Homes, who launched in September, the trio presents Pathways at Findlay Creek. In some ways, it’s an extension of the Findlay Creek community pioneered by Tartan Homes and Tamarack Homes more than 15 years ago. Pathways is meant to flow seamlessly south of the Tartan/Tamarack project and bot -
Opinion: Trudeau's Liberals are faltering on foreign policy at the midway point of their mandate
At the midpoint between its ascent to power and the next federal election, the Trudeau government gets an overall grade of B- on its foreign policy, having improved in some areas while underperforming in others.
The government’s actions and rhetoric have been inconsistent and, at times, contradictory, focused on messaging and advancing the Liberal brand more than fixing real problems.

Gormley: Why Mr. Scheer's trip to London is so impolite
I wonder: What’s the polite way to respond when an opposition leader meets with United Kingdom officials about a post-Brexit free-trade deal several months after the prime minister met with United Kingdom officials about a post-Brexit free-trade deal?
Are we to thank Mr. Andrew Scheer for belatedly doing that which he was not elected to do and that which was already done by the man who was elected to do it?
Are we to hope that a trusted loved one will pull him aside and tactfully explain t -

NATO general says there hasn't been any Russian aggression against Baltic States
Perhaps it was because Czech General Petr Pavel, chairman of the NATO Military Committee, is retiring this summer. But the general was surprisingly frank and maybe a little off script when he met with journalists in Washington recently.
A standard line used to describe NATO’s mission to the Baltic States is that the troops are in those countries to deter Russian aggression. Such a line is mentioned in almost all of the news media reports on Operation Reassurance, Canada’s mission to -

That pile of snow is about to get bigger
Light snow will continue to fall Friday, adding another two to four centimetres to the pile the city received Thursday and making the morning commute slippery.
Environment Canada says Ottawa received 7.2 centimetres of snow on Thursday.
The temperature will be pleasant over the next few days, reaching a high of 1 C on Friday, with partly cloudy skies.
The normal high at this time of year is just below zero.
A pretty white layer, no wind and the sun is trying to peak through the snow -

We need election debate rules
Re: Don’t fetter political leaders’ debates, March 3.
Your editorial on election debates ignored the elephant in the room. Big parties manipulate the debates, as no regulations stipulate fair rules. Andrew Coyne once compared excluding the Green Party from debates to the networks meeting with Chrysler, -
Winston: Why #MeToo is not for me
Count me out of the #MeToo movement.
It might be politically correct to support all the “courageous” women who have come forward with stories damning assorted male acquaintances for encounters that happened years ago. Some — perhaps even most — of the accounts may be accurate and may have affected the women’s present and their future. The rest could equally well be fiction or false memory, dredged up to remind the accusers that they, too, were attractive to the oppo -
Kurl: Pharmacare may be good medicine for the Trudeau government
There are headaches, and there are brain tumours. While pollsters’ steady drip of bad headlines are surely causing Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, his government and advisers no end of cranial pain, what’s yet to be diagnosed is whether they’re temporarily concussed, or incurably diseased.
The federal government didn’t exactly start the year in the pink. Cumulative injuries from last fall weren’t fully healed. Then the Liberals failed to vaccinate themselves on that -
