  The embattled mayor of Carleton Place is calling for a judicial inquiry into the “actions and transgressions” of his fellow members.

• Fire strikes Paul Anka Drive townhouse

  Ottawa firefighters made short work of a Saturday afternoon fire at a residence on Paul Anka Drive.
  The fire was reported just before 4 p.m. by a caller to 911 who saw thick smoke billowing from a townhouse at 3339 Paul Anka Dr., near Uplands Drive.
  Firefighters had the blaze under control by 4:15 p.m.
  A fire investigator was called to determine the cause of the fire and assess the damage it caused.
  There was no report of injuries.

• Weather office warning: Freezing rain expected Sunday afternoon, evening

  The bad news is it’s looking like off-and-on flurries for most of the weekend, leading to freezing rain on Sunday.
  The good news, for most folks, is that it’s not a workday, so traffic shouldn’t be a problem.
  The weather office issued a warning Saturday afternoon to expect freezing rain in the capital beginning Sunday afternoon and extending into the evening.

  The first Ottawa man charged on Wednesday with violating Ontario’s new bubble-zone law around abortion clinics was hit with three more tickets on Friday.
  Cyril Winter, 70, a frequent protester outside The Morgentaler Clinic on Bank Street, said Ottawa police issued him with three notices of violation after he showed up on the sidewalk with a new sign over the noon-hour.

  A man in his 30s died and another person was injured in a two-vehicle collision just outside Richmond on Friday evening, the second fatality in the area in less than 18 hours.
  Ottawa paramedics were called to the intersection of McBean Street and Bowrin Road, about two kilometres south of the village, at about 6:45 p.m. They began to treat two victims but one was pronounced dead on the scene from cardiac arrest caused by trauma.   Somehow, everyone escaped unscathed Friday morning when a detached van wheel bounced around in traffic travelling in both directions on the Queensway.

  A man in his 20s was killed early Friday in a rollover crash that downed live power wires.
  A second man in his 20s was unhurt in the crash.
