• Girl rushed to CHEO by air ambulance after fall from horse

  An 11-year-old girl was rushed to CHEO early Saturday falling from a horse.
  The fall happened around 1:15 p.m. Saturday afternoon on a family farm near North Gower, Ottawa paramedics said.
  The girl suffered arm and back injuries. She was taken to hospital in stable condition by Ornge air ambulance, according to paramedics.

  Ontario Provincial Police are warning motorists to remove licence plates from vehicles that are not in use after a Bancroft man reported getting parking tickets issued in Toronto. 
  It turns out man had left an old vehicle on his property. The plates were stolen and installed on another vehicle — although it’s not clear when that happened.

  Buckle up for slick roads on Monday.
  Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement, warning that the Ottawa area is likely in for a “significant freezing rain event” on Monday night into Tuesday morning with several millimetres of accumulation. “Roads will likely become slippery, initially due to some snow followed by a layer of freezing rain,” said the forecasting agency.

• Police warn that Women's March may tie up downtown traffic

  Ottawa police will be doing rolling road closures along the route of the Women’s March on Saturday  and are asking drivers who expect to be downtown in the afternoon to consider alternate routes. 
  The march, which begins on Parliament Hill at noon, will travel west on Wellington Street from Parliament Hill, travel south on Bank Street before turning west on Laurier Avenue, then south on Bronson Avenue.

• US approves sale of F-35s to Belgium

  The U.S. State Department has approved the sale of 34 F-35s and related equipment to Belguim at a cost of $6.53 billion U.S.
  The move clears the way for that country to purchase the conventional model of the F-35.
  The Belgians are in the midst of acquiring a new fighter jet to replace their F-16s.

  An overnight fire that destroyed a New Edinburgh house under construction and seriously damaged the duplex next door is under investigation.
  Firefighters were called to shortly before 11:30 p.m. to respond to a report of a fire in a house under construction on the corner of Queen Victoria Street and River Lane.   A man in his 30s was shot in the leg as he stepped out of his car in Findlay Creek on Friday night.
  Ottawa police say calls to 911 came in shortly after 8 p.m. after area residents heard gunfire. A witness told police two suspects were seen fleeing the scene. The incident, which occurred on Gracewood Crescent, is the city’s ninth shooting this year.

  Ontario is considering licensing lounges where people can consume marijuana when the drug becomes legal across Canada, according to regulations published by the province for public comment.
