  • Blast destroys part of an industrial building in Wakefield

    An industrial blaze consumed parts of a garage at 960 Edelweiss Road, just east of Wakefield, Quebec late Sunday morning.
    The building contained machinery owned by Construction Edelweiss, a civil engineering firm that maintains offices nearby. 
    The cause of the fire is unknown. 
     
  • Police officer pleads guilty to illegally transferring weapon

    A 40-year-old Ottawa Police officer who compounded a co-worker’s bad judgment in the handling of his service weapon and ended up facing a criminal charge in Kingston has been sanctioned in court, but he will not be burdened with a criminal record.
    Const. Ahmad W. Hafizi pleaded guilty in Kingston’s Ontario Court of Justice to illegally transferring a restricted weapon, a fellow officer’s gun, to an unauthorized third party.

  • Pedestrian in critical care after being hit and dragged three blocks

    A 52-year-old man is in life-threatening condition after being hit and dragged by a vehicle near Baseline Road and Merivale Road. Ottawa Paramedics responded to the scene and found the man, three blocks from where he had reportedly been hit. 
    Paramedics treated the man for critical, life-threatening injuries, including re-warming the man. He was then transferred to the Trauma Service at the Ottawa Hospital. 
    Ottawa Police are investigating. 
     
  • Days after devastating fire, congregation gathers for Christmas Eve service

    A Christian congregation whose place of worship went up in flames last week was able to hold its Christmas Eve service after all, thanks to the help of a nearby church.
    Dozens of people from the Living Waters Christian Assembly gathered at the nearby Woodvale Pentecostal Church on Greenbank Road early Sunday morning to for their service.
    Living Water’s pastor Syd Curry thanked those in attendance and said efforts to rebuild their church were already underway.
