Blais plans to break two-term promise by seeking re-election in 2018
Coun. Stephen Blais says he’s running to remain in the Cumberland seat at city council in the 2018 municipal election, potentially breaking his two-term promise.
Blais, who was first elected in 2010, said the prospect of going back on his word weighed heavy as he considered whether or not to run again in the next vote on Oct. 22, 2018.
“That’s why I think it took a little bit longer,” Blais said in an interview on Thursday.
“I love the job. It’s a lot of fun. -
Pellerin: The non-appeal of politics
This is part of a series we’ve dubbed “Politics for the rest of us” – an attempt to see if Canadians can find common ground, without rancour, between differing views. Today, meet a self-made businesswoman who’d rather avoid political discussion altogether:
It’s a quintessentially Canadian story. The daughter of refugees from the former Yugoslavia becomes a successful self-made businesswoman, has four children and two grandkids by age 45, has plenty of friends -
Black mould drives teams out of Kanata fire station
Firefighters and equipment from a Kanata fire station have been redeployed to other locations after black mould was discovered at the Eagleson Road firehall.
Ottawa fire Chief Gerry Pingitore said in a statement that emergency services should not be disrupted as crews and equipment work on a “dynamic deployment model” to maintain coverage in the district.
After an initial air quality analysis in late November, it was determined on Dec. 11 that air quality in Station 41 was safe &ldqu -

Used Australian F-18s to be operated from two Canadian bases
When Canada was looking to buy new Super Hornets from Boeing, the understanding was that they would be set up in one stand alone squadron, likely at CFB Cold Lake.
So how will the 18 used Australian F-18s be distributed? Will they be in one location?
Here is what a senior government official – speaking on background – had to say on that topic during the recent announcement:
“The force structure of the aircraft from Australia has not yet been finalized. We’re going t -

'I can't believe they would do this to me': Good Samaritan is robbed of precious tools
The Good Samaritan who drove his vintage tractor around Ontario to raise money for an Ottawa-area mother with terminal cancer, has been robbed of some of his most precious possessions — the tools he uses to repair that tractor.
Mike Thompson, who owns property northwest of Pakenham, said he arrived there a few days ago to find out thieves had stolen between $6,000 and $7,000 worth of tools and machinery from his workshop there.
“I can’t believe they would have done this to me.& -
