Ottawa police are seeking the public’s help to identify a driver who was involved in a hit-and-run collision Nov. 30 that injured a teenaged cyclist.
According to police, the 13-year-old boy was delivering newspapers near the intersection of Kennevale Drive and Hennepin Street in the Barrhaven district when a black vehicle struck the boy and sped away.
The boy sustained minor injuries and is expected to make a full recovery.
Police are asking the driver of the car

A confidential report from lawyer John Curtis, who spent three months on the case, was given to township council on Monday. It centred on allegations that three individuals, including Hillier and an unnamed councillor, had violated internal conduct policies and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

Reevely: Power plants have cheated millions from Ontario's electricity system, auditor finds
Ontarians have paid $1.5 billion extra on our electricity bills to compensate large producers and consumers for power we’ve made them waste, some of which they never actually wasted, Ontario’s auditor general Bonnie Lysyk reported Wednesday.
We did this under a 15-year-old program that was supposed to be temporary.
A program with flaws pointed out so frequently that one company took one of those warnings and used it as a manual for cheating the system.

Basil Borutski had killed three women, but he wasn’t done yet.
He pulled into a small sawmill in White Lake, On. on the morning of Sept. 22, 2015.
He had a loaded shotgun next to him, along with a sandwich bag full of shells, in a car he had stolen from the first of his victims that day.

Kanata LRT could stretch to Stittsville, but there's still a long way to go
The hardest part about doing a study on bringing LRT to Kanata might be managing expectations.
At an open house on Thursday night, west-end residents will review a proposed functional design of the LRT extension running along the north side of Highway 417 before veering south toward the Canadian Tire Centre.
As a bonus to Stittsiville residents, the city is proposing to extend the western terminus past the CTC to Hazeldean Road.

As infrastructure crumbles, councillors warn, transportation committee approves 2018 budget
That Ottawa’s transportation committee passed its draft 2018 budget on Wednesday virtually as presented was hardly a surprise — such thing is de rigueur inside Mayor Jim Watson’s city hall.
Of note, however, was the virtually unanimous view that the condition of roads across the national capital is crappy — and getting crappier.
Committee chair Keith Egli: “There’s no question city roads need work.”

Canadian anti-doping president applauds Olympics ban of Russia
Canada’s anti-doping watchdog is delighted, and slightly taken aback, that the International Olympic Committee has finally banned Russia from an Olympic Games.
The IOC ruled Tuesday that Russia would not be allowed to compete as a nation at the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea.
Paul Melia, president and CEO for the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport (CCES), which oversees drug testing for Canadian athletes, says he is “pleasantly surprised” by the ban.

Tighter mortgage rules in New Year may be driving Ottawa house price hikes
Tighter mortgage rules, which become effective on New Year’s Day, may be driving up the cost of buying a house in Ottawa.
Prices for single family homes jumped 7.3 per cent year over year in November to reach $403,500, the Ottawa Real Estate Board reported this week.
The price hikes reflected in part a higher-than-usual sales volume for November, which helped to reduce the number of available properties. There were 3,212 residential listings at the end of November compared to 3,745 in Octo -
