'Think Airbnb for RVs': Ottawa police officer takes business pitch to Dragons' Den
Ottawa police Const. Michael McNaught had just started his shift with a Tim Hortons coffee in hand when a call came in for a sexual assault suspect at a DriveTest location in April 2016.
McNaught would end up injured, his uniform ripped right off of him, and his right bicep tendon torn through.
But in an unexpected twist, exactly one year later, he’d be in the Dragons’ Den, asking Canadian business icons on the CBC reality show for $150,000 in exchange for 10 per cent of a company he -

Volunteer firefighters would also need to make the same pay as full-time firefighters under -

Reevely: Watson's latest budget doesn't use the old tricks to hide problems — it uses new ones
Fixing the roads isn’t a sexy election-year promise, but it’s Jim Watson to a tee. Odd, then, that the 2018 city budget the mayor presented Wednesday includes a cut to road maintenance.
“The changing weather patterns have created major challenges in maintaining our roads, pathways and community infrastructure,” Watson said in his budget speech. “The abundance of rain and spring flooding, the extraordinary amount of snow, and the number of freeze-thaw cycles has sign -
Winter is coming, warns Environment Canada: Winter weather travel advisory issued for Thursday night

“As this front passes temperatures will drop and scattered rain showers will change to flurrie -
Province proposes to expand personal emergency leave, end need for doctor's note
Ontario’s minister of labour was in Ottawa on Wednesday to speak about increased workers’ rights under the province’s proposed Fair Workplaces, Better Jobs Act.
As part of the beefed-up plan known as Bill 148, Kevin Flynn introduced a revised personal emergency leave policy that would include a minimum of 10 days off per year, with two of those days paid, for all workers, as well as a ban on the requirement for a doctor’s note.

Editorial: Ottawa budget a careful election-year effort
If there’s a lesson Jim Watson can take from the recent stunning defeat of Denis Coderre as Montreal’s mayor, it’s this: Stay close to your citizens and listen – really listen – to their concerns.
In presenting the city’s 2018 draft budget Wednesday, Watson showed he is indeed taking taxpayers seriously. He embraced their priorities while presenting a plan that stays within the two-per-cent tax-increase ceiling that has long been his pledge.
That doesn’t -

Hill: Was the Russian revolution about communism or organized crime?
The door is thick and well padded, but it was not enough to protect the leaders of the first Russian revolution.
It is located in a room in the labyrinth-like Hermitage Palace on the seafront of Saint Petersburg. Today, the Hermitage is the world’s largest museum. In October 1917, it was the headquarters of the Mensheviks – a weak, social democratic government.
The Mensheviks had overthrown Czar Nicholas II a few months before and captured his vast palace. Unable to govern effectivel -

Renovation transformation: From yellow-brick flunk to waterfront dream home
Quirky. That’s the only way to describe it.
Three-and-a-half years ago, perched on the shore of the Rideau River, was a yellow-brick bungalow with pink accent stone, two front doors and an unlikely gazebo that protruded into the living area.
It needed a total gut job, but one thing was for sure – you couldn’t beat the view.
Now, the house’s four walls and roof are all that remain after a Manotick couple hired Gordon Weima Design Builder to transform the dated home into th -

The one big reason Tuesday was an even better night for Democrats in Virginia than it appears
Democrat Ralph Northam’s win in the Virginia governor’s race on Tuesday is the one that’s getting lots of attention. But the much bigger win for Democrats — at least as far as their outlook on the 2018 election — was the Virginia House of Delegates.
Democrats went into Tuesday with few illusions about winning control of that chamber. Republicans, after all, controlled almost two-thirds of it — 66 out of 100 seats. As of late Tuesday night, though, Democrats ha -

Thursday’s forecast is for increasing cloudiness, showers beginning in the afternoon and a high of 7 C and a low of -13 C.
Environment Canada is predicting the mercury will drop into the subzero double-digits overnigh -
