GOHBA's 34th annual Housing Design Award winners mad about modern
Ottawa’s veteran builders, renovators and designers proved they’ve still got plenty of game by winning the lion’s share of the trophies at the annual Housing Design Awards.
Crisp, contemporary designs dominated with plenty of sleek kitchens, inviting bathrooms, dreamy basements, floating staircases and oversized windows that emphasize the connection between inside and out. Ottawa’s love affair with neutral finishes, wood and stone accents and sparkling white kitchens and -

Videos tell all: Secret Lives of Public Servants exposes hidden talents
They walk unseen among us, meekly reviewing policy documents in their government cubicles by day, but breaking free after hours to write comic books, don costumes, and produce satirical artworks.
Ottawa filmmaker Amen Jafri has exposed these hidden artists of Ottawa in a quirky series of short documentaries called Secret Lives of Public Servants. The screening of the first three episodes was Saturday evening at the Impact Hub on Slater Street.
Beginning Oct. 31 the episodes will roll out on  -
Finger injury nightmare continues for Bobby Ryan
Bobby Ryan’s string of freak finger fractures has hit the ridiculous stage.
We can no longer count on one hand the number of digit injuries Ryan has suffered since joining the Ottawa Senators.
After the latest incident, breaking his troublesome right index finger after blocking a Ron Hainsey shot in the third period of Saturday’s 6-3 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs, Ryan is expected to miss at least a month.
Make it five consecutive years that he has suffered hand damage, a run of b -
Gatineau Park parkways closing for the season
Some roads in the Gatineau Park close for the season today.
At 5 p.m., the Lake Philippe, Gatineau, Champlain and Fortune Lake parkways will be closed to motorists. The annual winter closure allows the parkways to become cross-country ski trails during the fast-approaching winter months. Cyclists, roller skaters, walkers and runners can take advantage of the car-free roads until the snow falls.
The roads will reopen for cars at noon, May 4, 2018.

Scanlan: The Ottawa 67's celebrate their history amidst an attendance crisis
The Ottawa 67’s have a lot to celebrate this season, and a lot to worry about.
It was 50 years ago that Howard Darwin and his partners landed an OHL franchise for Ottawa, a team that would go on to win two Memorial Cup championships (1984,’99) under the guidance of Brian Kilrea and launch dozens of NHL careers, including that of the great Bobby Smith, who was in Ottawa on Friday for a salute to the 1977-87 decade of the 67’s.

Brennan: Brassard and Ryan producing like they did last spring for the Senators
Derick Brassard scored two goals and added the best celebration of the season on Saturday night.
After putting the Senators ahead 5-3 late in the third period with his second of the night, a rocket to the top corner, Brassard slammed on the brakes at the glass and stared at a fan wearing a blue Toronto Maple Leafs jersey just on the other side.
It was a classic moment.
“Those games are a lot of fun,” said Brassard. “Fans are passionate on both sides. Score two goals, and (Leaf -
Sens hold off Leafs and finally win at home, but Ryan breaks finger
Senators 6, Maple Leafs 3
The Ottawa Senators finally dodged a third period collapse, but Bobby Ryan couldn’t dodge yet another severe finger injury.
There was relief in the Senators dressing room following a wild and wacky, back-and-forth third period that resulted in a 6-3 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs – Ottawa’s first win at the Canadian Tire Centre this season.
Yet there was also more heartbreak for Ryan, who can’t catch a break when it comes to broken di -

Hauntingly familiar: Clark plays 67's OT hero for a third straight gam
67’s 1, IceDogs 0
Kody Clark played the hero for a second consecutive night and third straight game — and in eerily similar fashion.
Clark gave the Ottawa 67’s a 1-0 Ontario Hockey League road win over the Niagara IceDogs on Saturday night when he scored at 4:55 of overtime.
That dramatic goal came almost exactly 24 hours after he’d scored at 4:35 of overtime to give the 67’s a 2-1 win over the Oshawa Generals at TD Place arena.
And the Clark run gets stranger still -
No playoffs for Ravens after letting regular-season finale slip away at home
There will be no playoff football for the Carleton Ravens in 2017.
The Ravens’ season came to an end at home on Saturday with a devastating 28-23 loss to the Guelph Gryphons that left Carleton eighth in the Ontario University Athletics standings with a 3-5 record.
At points in the game at MNP Park, it had looked like the home team was on its way to victory, leading 12-6 at halftime and 22-12 after three quarters. And then came the fourth. Guelph stormed from behind to capture the vic -

Senators' DiDomenico warranted call-up based on overall play, not scoring stats
When it came time to call up a forward from Belleville for the first time this season, the Senators didn’t look at which of their farmhands had the most points.
They were bringing up either Chris DiDomenico or Max McCormick — and at the time the decision was made the latter still had an AHL suspension to serve — based on overall performance.

Ottawans bask in the glow of a warm October sun
Ottawans are getting spoiled by the gorgeous fall weather, and that continued on Saturday as temperatures reached 22 C in the sun, falling just short of the record high for Oct. 21.
The mark of 24.2 (for years between 1939 and 2011) was set back in 1979, but the official high of 22.1 on Saturday left those in the capital shivering at the thought of 11.3, the average high for the day.
