The Ottawa police are asking for assistance in locating a missing woman, Aline Karegeya, who was last seen on Oct. 6.
The 47-year-old Lowertown resident is described as black, 5-7 and 160 pounds. She has very short, curly black hair, speaks both English and French, and uses public transportation. She has a medical condition that requires medicine and her right hand is noticeably cramped. There are concerns for her well-being and safety.

City, law enforcement still standing down as injection tent hits seven weeks
The unsanctioned supervised injection tent in a Lowertown park will have been operating for seven weeks on Friday and city hall still hasn’t figured out what to do about it.
Top officials are trying to move the tent from Raphael Brunet Park to another location. Mayor Jim Watson continues to leave it up to law enforcement to decide how to handle Overdose Prevention Ottawa’s makeshift injection site, which is open for three hours each evening.
“That’s a decision of bylaw an -
'It makes you feel you're not alone': Supervised injection trailer arrives at Shepherds of Good Hope
Just before 11 a.m. on Thursday, John Sangster sat cross-legged on the pavement in a Lowertown parking lot with a needle filled with the opioid hydromorphone pressed into his arm.
A woman in a Porsche SUV pulled into the lot next to Saint Brigid’s Centre for the Arts looking for a spot as Sangster packed up a black plastic bag with syringes, a lighter and disposable wipes, got to his feet and walked back toward the Shepherds of Good Hope, one block away.

Scanlan: Hockey on Parliament Hill could be the perfect Canada 150 farewell
It seems a bit early to be constructing an outdoor hockey rink.
Yet, workers were laying the groundwork Thursday for what figures to be a unique skating pad on the lawn of Parliament Hill, one that should provide fitting closure to Canada 150 celebrations.
Heritage Canada, along with the Ottawa Senators and the Bell Capital Cup tournament, have announced the temporary rink will be used for various public skating and hockey initiatives from Dec. 7 to 31.

Pardy: Canadians held hostage – we can't be complacent
Successful rescues of overseas kidnap victims, such as the freeing of the Boyle family by Pakistani security forces, are rare. More often than not, such actions end with the death of the victims or the rescuers. Experts say less than 20 per cent of rescue attempts succeed.
That’s one reason the Canadian government can’t be complacent when our citizens are kidnapped abroad.
Canadian Joshua Boyle and his wife, Caitlan Coleman, an American, were kidnapped in early October 2012 as -

Capital Voices: She was a drum majorette and she swung her steel baton with authority
To mark Canada’s sesquicentennial, the Citizen’s Bruce Deachman met and photographed 150 people in the Ottawa area, encouraging them to tell their stories that, combined, painted an intimate portrait of the region and the people who live, work and play here. The series, which was published daily leading up to Canada Day, was called Capital Voices. It continues on a somewhat less rigorously defined schedule.

Reevely: Two years later, still waiting for the Progressive Conservatives to stand for something
The Ontario Progressive Conservatives look as though they’ll finish nearly two years of deciding what they stand for without much more idea than they had going in.
Next month they’ll study 139 policy resolutions at a major convention in Toronto, laying groundwork for the 2018 election campaign. They released the list Wednesday night. They’re not policy yet, and party policy is not a campaign platform. The Tories started this at an Ottawa convention in late winter 2016, where le -
Nussbaum: How to build public support for urban intensification
You could not be faulted for approaching the new Minto building at the western gateway of Beechwood Avenue with excited anticipation.
After a fire devastated the previous structure in 2011, reducing apartments and beloved shops to ash, the sad and barren site sat boarded up until 2015, when construction began on a nine-storey, mixed-use building.
As you approach the new edifice, however, you may be puzzled. You recall the renderings showed an attractive entrance and transparent windows at a notc -

Supervised injection trailer arriving at Shepherds of Good Hope as staff wait for federal OK
Ottawa Inner City Health and the Shepherds of Good Hope aren’t waiting for Health Canada’s approval before preparing a supervised injection site at what one executive calls the “ground zero” of Ottawa’s opioid crisis.

Four teens caught in Escape, arrested for theft
It was just before lunchtime on Wednesday when a Gatineau police officer noticed a familiar car — familiar because the officer herself had taken the report when it was allegedly stolen a few days earlier.
The red Ford Escape was parked outside a massage studio next door to a tattoo shop on St. Joseph Boulevard near Boulevard des Allumettières.
