The Ottawa Police Service and Ottawa Fire Services won’t switch over to a new radio system until some point in 2018 as the city and its contractor continue to resolve the bugs hampering the full rollout.
It means for several more months the two emergency services, which make up a large portion of radio users in Ottawa, will continue using a legacy system that dates back to the mid-1990s and was declared end-of-life in 2015.
Earlier this year the city adjusted its plans to have police and f

Dzingel will have to wait for pre-season debut
Ryan Dzingel was a welcome visitor to the Ottawa Senators’ practice Thursday.
Ideally, he’s here to stay.
After missing the club’s first two preseason games with a groin injury, Dzingel, who will likely play a top-six role this year, skated for the first time with the full group. If all goes well, he’ll suit up for the club’s final two exhibition games against the Winnipeg Jets next Wednesday at the MTS Centre and the Montreal Canadiens next Saturday at the Bell Cen -

'In living memory': War museum unveils updated gallery from Gulf War to Afghanistan
It’s history told by the living in their own words and mementos – a camera shattered by an IED blast, an Olympic torch passed by grateful victims of war, the antidote to a deadly nerve gas attack – brought home from war.
The Canadian War Museum unveiled an update Thursday to the final section of its gallery covering the Cold War to the present with new artifacts and eyewitness testimony on Canada’s role in conflicts, from the Gulf War to Afghanistan.

Glavin: Trudeau, at the UN, charms democrats and mass murderers alike

Privacy czar blames RCMP after woman denied entry to U.S. over suicide attempt
A Canadian woman was turned back at the U.S. border after information about her suicide attempt was inappropriately shared with American officials through an RCMP-administered database, the federal privacy watchdog says.
The incident is just one illustration of how government agencies and private businesses must do a better job of safeguarding personal data in the digital era, privacy commissioner Daniel Therrien said Thursday.
Reforms are needed to strengthen the federal privacy law that covers -

Karlsson at practice, but still no timetable for his return to the ice
Erik Karlsson stood on the bench and took in the skate Thursday at the Canadian Tire Centre.Unfortunately, he has yet to lace them up himself.
The Senators’ captain has missed a week of on-ice sessions at the club’s training camp and, if there’s a schedule for the club’s best player to take a twirl after offseason foot surgery to repair a damaged tendon, nobody is hinting at when that might happen.
Coach Guy Boucher said he’s preparing as if Karlsson won’t be -

Senators have plenty of options to fill out roster
The answers will have to come from within for the Ottawa Senators.
As the clock ticks toward the club’s season opener against the Washington Capitals on Oct. 5 at the Canadian Tire Centre, there are a lot of questions left to be answered as the battle for jobs continues in training camp.
While Ottawa GM Pierre Dorion has shown serious interest in Colorado Avalanche forward Matt Duchene, indications are the two sides aren’t on the same page in trade talks, which means nobody should ho -

The story of 'Burial 8': One of Ottawa's forgotten emerges from the mist of history
In the early 1800s there was a rugged thirty-something labourer who walked the dusty streets of Bytown with a tobacco pipe clenched between his teeth.
