The Ottawa Redblacks may not know until sometime Monday how long they’ll be without quarterback Trevor Harris.
The good news: It may not be season-ending.The question mark: How will they do with a new quarterback standing behind centre Jon Gott? Drew Tate will be that guy. It’s not like he’s a rookie — this is the 32-year-old’s ninth season in the CFL, with a handful of starts under his belt. He’s got 4,670 yards and 32 touchdowns, completing 380-of-572 passes

EGAN: Exit signs on door-to-door contracts — Ontario eyes prohibitions
There are ways out of unwanted door-to-door contracts. Don Nafe, 61, found one, though he had to turn dogged detective — and in a hurry.
The musician and recording engineer was at home on Iroquois Road one day in mid-July — recovering from a severe back injury and “slightly buzzed” on painkillers — when an official-looking man came to the door.
He left the impression he was connected with both Enbridge and the firm that supplied Nafe’s hot-water heater and wan -

67's deal goalie Lazarev to Barrie
For three seasons, goaltender Leo Lazarev was the Ottawa 67’s main guy.
On Sunday, he found a new team, with the 67’s dealing him to the Barrie Colts for a conditional draft pick. Doesn’t sound like much of a return, right? As it turns out, it was probably in the best interests of both the player and the team.
James Boyd, the first-year GM of the 67’s, explained: “The way our numbers are (for overage players), the numbers are filling up quickly. We’ve been hap -
Explainer: Just how bad is binge drinking?
Sure, it’s just college kids having a boozy Friday night.
But at Western University Dr. Evelyn Vingilis sees a binge drinking differently.
“There are a lot of serious health and safety risks,” she says, “and No. 1 is death.”
“It is actually quite a serious problem,” she adds, perhaps unnecessarily. Vingilis, who teaches in the department of family medicine, does research in risky behaviour.
There’s an official definition of a binge: Five drink -

Former Canadian Chinook helicopters continue as workhorses of Dutch air force
I recently interviewed Lt.-Gen. Dennis Luyt, the head of the Royal Netherlands Air Force, about his country’s F-35 program and the state of the nation’s air force.
One area that was of interest was the Dutch air force’s Chinook helicopters, in particular those purchased from Canada.
Canada’s air force owned Chinook helicopters up until the early 1990s when the Conservative government sold them off to the Dutch because they were too expensive to operate. (In the past -
Capital Builders: Thomas Ahearn and Warren Soper the 'Edisons of Canada'
In 1855, the muddy rough-and-tumble lumber centre known as Bytown gave birth to the city of Ottawa, not yet even close to a bustling metropolis but certainly on its way to greater things, including its soon-to-be-announced position as the central governing hub of the young nation.
Gas lights had only just been introduced to Ottawa’s business area, while whale oil lamps were used elsewhere in town. Citizens still had their water delivered by cart or drew it themselves from wells. The first -

Unbelievable photos and videos as Hurricane Irma hits Florida
Hurricane Irma, having already brought devastation and destruction to the Caribbean, is now hammering Florida with unparalleled ferocity.
Residents huddled in shelters watching for updates as Irma began its assault on Florida early Sunday as a Category 4 storm, lashing the area with winds near 130 mph (215 kph) and drenching rain.
Irma’s northern eyewall reached the lower Florida Keys and the U.S. National Hurricane Center said the hurricane was expected to remain a powerful storm as it mo -

Fury FC salvages draw with Rhinos with late rally
Fury FC 1, Rhinos 1
All things considered, Ottawa Fury FC should have been pleased with its 1-1 draw against the host Rochester Rhinos on Saturday night, but wasn’t.
The way the game started, the Rhinos (11-5-9) could easily have taken an early two or three-goal lead instead of the 1-0 advantage they received on a goal by Christiano Francois in the 19th minute.
The Rhinos dominated play in the opening 40 minutes, while the Fury had few if any chances.
Adding to that, Fury FC also had to pl -
