Fresh season, fresh start for the Ottawa 67's
When Travis Barron is asked about all the changes with the Ottawa 67’s, the first thing that comes to mind is his first bus trip with the Ontario Hockey League club in September 2014. He was then a wide-eyed, 16-year-old rookie who had been a first-round draft pick from Belfountain, Ont., only a couple of months earlier.
Now, from his captain’s chair at the very back of the 67’s Silver Eagle, Barron is well aware the only other remaining links from those days are head equipment -
Reevely: Pierre Poilievre, at the kids' table no more
At a window table at 3 Brewers on Sparks Street on Thursday, I slide across to Pierre Poilievre a printout of the first photographs we ever took of him.
“Oh, God,” he says. “Burn them. Burn them!”
The best one is a candid shot from a hospitality suite at the Westin in 2000, where conservative politicos had gathered to try to unite Canada’s fractured right-wing parties. Poilievre — more Calgarian than Ottawan at the time — was at the convention -
Gatineau medical pot company lands high-profile former politician
A medical marijuana company in Gatineau has snagged a high-profile former politician to work for its growing operation.

Lake served eight years in the B.C. legislature, and was health minister in the Liberal government between 2013 and the spring of 2017. He didn’t run in the provincial election in May.

Ottawa EMS head sick of 'gamesmanship' in paramedic spat with counties
Relentless needling by neighbouring counties over paramedic coverage has the head of Ottawa’s emergency services criticizing the “gamesmanship” of the border municipalities.
Anthony Di Monte, general manager of Ottawa’s emergency and protective services, is fighting back against claims by outside municipalities that they’re being loaded up with Ottawa-based calls for service.
On Thursday, Di Monte acknowledged the pressures of outside municipalities with smaller par -

Salvation Army's economic study rosy 'in a vacuum,' BIA says
The chair of the Quartier Vanier BIA is skeptical about a study commissioned by the Salvation Army that suggests a relocated shelter and health complex would pump $15 million into the local economy.
Mark Kaluski said no business owner has told him that the proposed complex for 333 Montreal Rd. would bring a financial windfall for Vanier.
“The report paints a rosy picture, but there’s a reason Ottawa neighbourhoods aren’t lining up to fight to get this project into their area,&r -

Opinion: How to heal the scars of Canada's War on Drugs
The legalization of cannabis and rapid scale up of supervised-injection sites – as well as community-led initiatives, such as the site set up by Overdose Prevention Ottawa in Lowertown this month – have thrust Canada back into the limelight of global drug policy. Against the backdrop of a national overdose crisis and a fracturing of global consensus on drug prohibition, these are welcome changes. Yet they only begin to chip away at the drug policy challenges facing Canada.

Adam: Police union boycott does more harm than good
The Ottawa Police Association’s boycott of public events to underline its feud with Chief Charles Bordeleau is baffling.
Union president Matt Skof was a no-show at last week’s Capital Pride parade. Indeed, Skof told the Citizen he would have boycotted the parade even if police uniforms were allowed. Participating, he said, would have given the -
