The weather delivered a serious smackdown on the capital Saturday afternoon, with lightning striking residences and trees knocked down.
Ottawa Fire Services confirmed at least two lightning strikes on homes, one on First Avenue and the other on Nonius Street, but said there were no fires.
However, the Ottawa fire Twitter account described the hits with the hashtag: #TooCloseForComfort .
The storm also delivered “blueberry sized hail” in Westboro and other neighbourhoods, according to

Senators executive Bryan Murray passes away at 74
Bryan Murray never backed down from any battle he faced during his lifetime in hockey.
That was the same approach he took with his cancer diagnosis.
The legendary former Ottawa Senators GM and coach, who was diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer in June, 2014, put up a brave fight and refused to back down against long odds but the 74-year-old Murray, a native of Shawville in the Outaouais, has passed away.

We did not ask for this continuing wet outlook, the 60-per-cent chance of rain later Saturday, the chance (again) of thunderstorms, the wind, the high of 23 C with humidity levels expected to make it feel like 30.

15 stories: The killing of Pierre Laporte
The 1970 kidnapping, and subsequent murder, of Pierre Laporte changed forever Canadians’ perceptions of themselves as immune from terrorism. This is one of 15 Canadian stories we are presenting as part of the Citizen’s ongoing Canada 150 coverage.
Pierre Laporte was at home in the Montreal suburb of St. Lambert, throwing a football with his nephew on the front lawn, when a group of men drove up in a blue-green Chevrolet Biscayne and forced him into the car. As they drove off, the nep -
Waiting on a train: How the Confederation LRT Line is taking shape
Through a chain-link fence I watch as a ready-mix truck backs into place and lowers its trough. A river of wet concrete flows to the pump truck and up a large robotic arm, the boom, which extends high above a square section of earth. The workers barely say a word to each other. They’ve done this so many times before they could probably do it now with their eyes closed.
I have stood on this side of the fence before, watching the Confederation LRT Line come to life.

First-year 67's Pierre Jarry and Gary Doyle reunited at anniversary event
Pierre Jarry and Gary Doyle, the first two legitimate stars of the Ottawa 67’s, hadn’t seen each other since the last game of the 1968-69 regular season.
That seemed like way too long considering Doyle used to watch Jarry for 60 minutes almost every night from his crease. If Jarry wasn’t scoring a goal at the other end, he was marvelling at how the diminutive Doyle could face 50 or 60 shots a night and still keep the 67’s in most games.

Maybe the 2017 Redblacks really aren't that good
Maybe the Ottawa Redblacks just aren’t very good.
Maybe they are exactly what we’ve seen so far: a Canadian Football League team that isn’t experienced enough to finish off games it should win; a team that can’t seem to block or tackle well enough; a team that both bends and breaks.
There’s no disguising the ugliness of a 1-6-1 start to the regular season, the latest setback 27-20 to a depleted Edmonton Eskimos team on Thursday night. Certainly you’d expect mo -
Goals and points both needed by 10th-place Fury FC
Not that he checks the United Soccer League standings around the clock, but head coach and general manager Paul Dalglish has done some number crunching and has some thoughts on what it will take Ottawa Fury FC to secure a playoff spot.
Dalglish thinks the club can be one of the final eight teams playing into late October if it can average between 1.3 and 1.35 points for its last 13 regular-season games.
In a league where it’s three points for a win and one for a tie, that pace would give 1 -
OC Transpo driver accused in child sex crimes case
An OC Transpo driver accused of sexually abusing three young boys from 2012 to 2016 is now facing charges of threatening to kill one of their parents.
