Want to shut down an illegal pot shop? Here's one who tried
When a shop openly selling marijuana opened a couple blocks from her home, Angie Todesco was astounded.
A year later, she shuffles through a file folder of official responses from authorities she figured might have some power to shut down a store illegally selling drugs. She’s written, emailed or called everyone from the prime minister to the Manor Park Community Association. “It doesn’t amount to a hill of beans,” she says.
It’s not easy to get rid of a pot shop.

Medical scribes are changing the way doctors do their work
“So what brings you in today?”
Dr. Bhaskar Gopalan, chief of the emergency department at Queensway Carleton Hospital, sees dozens of patients during his often-hectic shifts. Today he is seeing 68-year-old William Ellacott, who tells Gopalan he was hit by a puck while playing hockey.
Before Gopalan examines the small wound on Ellacott’s chin, he turns behind him and says a few words to a young man scribbling quietly in the corner.
“Alex, can you pass me a gauze?”

Renaming duplicate streets drags on 16 years after Ottawa's amalgamation
Bell Street cuts a narrow line through residential Chinatown and the Glebe Annex, its north and south ends split by the Queensway.
Tightly packed duplexes, rowhouses and apartment buildings sit close to the road and few have front lawns.
But in Stittsville, Bell Street looks much different. Acres of green grass separate sizeable single-family homes from the wide asphalt roadway. There are no sidewalks and no need for strict rules about on-street parking.
The two Bell streets lived in harmon -

Year-old plate scanner has nabbed hundreds of banned, unlicensed drivers: Police
A year after landing on Ottawa roads, a device that allows police to digitally hunt for the plates of stolen cars and unlicensed drivers has been such a boon to the cause of safer roads that they’ve added a second unit with plans for a third.

The police owe this man an apology
The scourge of fentanyl has hit the nation’s capital with devastating consequences, and kudos to Ottawa police for going into overdrive to bring to justice the criminals who traffic in this deadly drug.
