With no desperation, his voice never wavering, quarterback Trevor Harris talked about what’s at stake for the Ottawa Redblacks on Thursday night at home against the Edmonton Eskimos.
“We’re very close to turning the corner,” said Harris. “You look at the record and you probably think, ‘Oh, man, fractured locker room, bickering, coaches yelling at each other, team falling apart’ … that’s not the case. Most of the panicking is going on outside

Ottawa cop Sgt. Hrnchiar continues journey toward reconciliation
Ten months ago, a police prosecutor told Sgt. Chris Hrnchiar he would be “forever labelled” by the “insulting and racist” comments he made online after the drowning death of Annie Pootoogook.
Wednesday morning, the veteran Ottawa police sergeant took up a paddle and climbed into a canoe with Pootoogook’s daughter, Napatchie, 4, and Napatchie’s biological cousin, Ellie, 8, another step in Hrnchiar’s journey of healing and reconciliation.

Denley: Ontario keeps dancing around the debt
Managing deficits and debt hasn’t been a strong point for Ontario’s Liberal government, but if anyone asks, it has an answer. The deficit has been eliminated after a heroic, decade-long battle. There is still the debt, but not to worry, the government has a plan to bring that under control as well.
The Fraser Institute looks at that debt control plan in some detail in a new report entitled Wishful Thinking. The think tank finds a few sizeable holes in the government’s approach, -

Decriminalization could decrease impact of illicit drugs, addiction, Ottawa officials say
The decriminalization of all illegal drugs — not just marijuana — may help decrease the devastating effects of drug use and addiction in Ottawa, city officials said Wednesday.
They were responding to a suggestion by Toronto’s medical officer of health that such a drastic move could help address Canada’s spiralling opioid crisis.
Dr. Eileen De Villa told reporters last week the current approach to drugs in her city and across the country “doesn’t -

Maloney: North Korea's nuclear threat could be a 'blast from the past.' Why isn't Canada ready?
Let the sabre-rattling commence! In our last instalment in this fine newspaper, I provided a primer on 1960s’ Soviet technology that North Korea could use against North America: Fractional Orbital Bombardment Systems and Electromagnetic Pulse. The Fraser Institute looks at that debt control plan in some detail in a new report entitled Wishful Thinking. The think tank finds a few sizeable holes in the government’s approach, -
