  A young man is in critical condition after a shooting Tuesday on Grenon Avenue, near Michele Park and close to Carling Avenue.
  Ottawa police received the call around 3:45 p.m. The shooting occurred on the roadway and no nearby businesses or residences were involved, said police on scene.

  A 36-year-old father with a troubled past has been identified as the man who was gunned down in an Iris Street parking lot Monday night.
   
  As investigators took video and combed the crime scene for evidence Tuesday, police named the dead man as Esmail Sharifi.
   
  Authorities responded to reports of gunfire at the strip mall in the Pinecrest area around 9:30 p.m. and found the critically injured Sharifi, who a business owner reported had stumbled toward a restaurant seeking help.

• Gas leak forces Carling Avenue detour

  Carling Avenue between Preston Street and Sherwood Avenue is closed because of a gas leak.
  Ottawa fire says they were notified of the leak just before 2 p.m. and are on scene, though there is no fire. It was caused by a “severed large natural gas line.”
  Ottawa police are redirecting traffic. Some nearby buildings have been evacuated as a precaution.

  Ottawa police have located a man who had been missing from the Carling Avenue and Parkdale Avenue area.
  The 20-year-old man left The Ottawa Hospital’s Civic campus and did not return, police said Tuesday. Doctors were concerned for his well-being.
  The man, who was found safe, has since been returned to hospital, said police.

  The news coming out of Iraq and Syria is slightly less bad for a change. While wars and violence continue to cause suffering in both nations, at least one terrorist group is on the decline. That group, of course, is Islamic State (ISIL or IS), a particularly barbaric group of violent extremists in the pantheon of terrorist entities.   Ottawa police guns and gangs squad is investigating a case of shots fired in the Heron Park area Monday night.
  Police were called to Rockingham Avenue at about 9 p.m. by reports of gunfire.
  Witnesses reported that the dispute was between individuals in two cars, although it’s uncertain whether the shots were fired from one vehicle or both.
