La Machine: Your guide to road closures and transportation
If you’re thinking of trekking down to gaze at the giant horse-dragon and spider machines taking over downtown Ottawa for the next several days, be aware of a range of road closures.
The highly-anticipated street theatre production La Machine, a signature event for Ottawa 2017 celebrations, awakens on Thursday near the National Gallery. It will make its way through the downtown core from Thursday to Sunday.
The machines — Long Ma, the horse-dragon, and Kumo, the spider — are a -
Reevely: Canada Post promises to follow bike-lane laws, but only in Toronto
Canada Post drivers will be expected to obey the law and not park their trucks in bike lanes, the corporation announced this week, though the policy will apply only in Toronto.
In other places, apparently, law-breaking drivers can be confident Canada Post has their backs. It’s a really weird thing, like declaring that stopping at red lights will be mandatory in Edmonton or that drivers won’t plow through crosswalks in the southern half of New Brunswick.

Karlsson and Currey, picture perfect
Along his road to recovery, Erik Karlsson hit the highway to Sandbanks for a photo shoot with his future wife.

Accompanying them was local photographer Joel Bedford, who noted the couple looked “smashing” and could have been pulled from a classic James Bond movie.
Karlsson wore a “bespoke bl -

In just over an hour, Sgt. Mark Gatien and his Ottawa police traffic unit were able to catch 22 drivers going over the 100-km/h speed limit on Highway 174 on Wednesday afternoon.
“I was surprised. We don’t get too many driving in the 140s,” Gatien said of one driver who was stopped on the highway around 12:30 p.m.
On top of a fine, that driver was also dinged $325 more for driving without a license.
According to the Highway Traffic Act, speeders going 30-49 km/h -
Scanlan: Staggering CTE numbers in latest study of former football players cause for worry
Football adores statistics, but these numbers will make anyone associated with the sport cringe with worry.
The largest study to date on the brains of former football players has found some level of CTE in nearly all cases, especially in ex-NFL players, but also in varying degrees among former CFL players, college and high school players.
From the 202 brains studied, all from deceased players, the degenerative brain disease known as CTE (chronic traumatic encephalopathy) was diagnosed in 177, or -

Behind the Scenes at the Canadian War Museum – Paul Franklin's Hula girl
I recently received a behind-the-scenes look at the Canadian War Museum’s storage facilities/vaults as specialists there prepare for reworking exhibit areas at the museum.
The concluding area of Gallery 4: From the Cold War to the Present is being redeveloped to explore Canadian involvement in operations in the Gulf War, Somalia, Rwanda, the former Yugoslavia and Afghanistan. Glavin: Has Canada just given up – and decided to join with Beijing?
“There is a saying that if you can’t beat them, join them.”
That was the telling choice of words former Liberal cabinet minister Martin Cauchon settled on back in November 2011 in greeting the news that Huawei Canada, the subsidiary of an opaquely governed Chinese telecommunications conglomerate long encumbered by its reported links to China’s military and intelligence services, was beefing up its Ottawa operations thanks to a $6.5-million Ontario government grant.

TORONTO — Prime Minister Justin Trudeau graces the cover of the latest issue of Rolling Stone magazine accompanied by a provocative headline: “Why Can’t He Be Our President?”

Denley: Hydro One no longer has Ontarians' interests at heart
The important thing about Hydro One’s recently announced acquisition of an American power company is not that it gives our former public utility a tiny stake in an American coal-fired power plant, although the premier’s efforts to justify it have been amusing.
What does matter is what the $4.4-billion deal tells us about Hydro One’s priorities. The company’s focus is clearly on expanding into the U.S., not serving Ontario customers better.
In buying Avista, Hydro One is s -

Yes, that's sun outside your window. And, if you wish really hard, it could stay that way until noon-ish, when forecasters expect clouds to roll in, although no rain is forecast until Wednesday evening, which is showing a 60-per-cent chance of showers.
