  As he battled rib and knee ailments in the pre-season, receiver/returner Daje Johnson knew he needed to heal and the Ottawa Redblacks would take another look at him.

  There is no specific cause for the uptick in drownings in Ontario this summer, says a national water safety organization that tracks such incidents.

  An Ottawa doctor who spoke publicly about his own struggles with drug addiction has resigned from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario after being found guilty of professional misconduct for prescribing restricted drugs.
  Dr. Daniel Sweet agreed to resign last week, according to the College. Its disciplinary body found the Ottawa physician guilty of professional misconduct after a fourth disciplinary procedure. He had previously been restricted from prescribing controlled substances.

  An Ottawa man has been charged with impaired driving after his car crashed near an off-ramp on Highway 417 last week.
  On Friday around 6:50 p.m., an Ontario Provincial Police officer arrived at the scene of a collision at the eastbound off-ramp for Riverside Drive. Upon investigation, the officer alleged the driver seemed to have been drinking. 
  Police said there were no injuries in the collision. 
  The driver was brought back to the station for breathalyzer tests.

  The Ottawa Senators have avoided going to arbitration with centre Jean-Gabriel Pageau.
  The Senators centre, who had a standout performance in the playoffs, agreed to a three-year, $9.3 million contract Monday with a cap hit of $3.1 million per-season.

  The NCC is asking residents to avoid Hog’s Back Road for part of Monday as emergency repairs to the swing bridge have forced the road to be closed.
  The road, which runs between Colonel By and Prince of Wales drives, will remain closed to all traffic from 10 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
