Maybe it’s as simple as saying the Ottawa Redblacks really, really do want to see what Corey Tindal, Sherrod Baltimore and Adrian James can do.
Or maybe there was behind-the-scenes stuff with cornerback A.J. Jefferson, who the Redblacks released on Monday.
Either way, it looks as if Tindal is the next man up as the Redblacks prepare to travel to Edmonton for Friday’s game against the Eskimos.
“I like A.J.,” Redblacks head coach Rick Campbell said. “A.J.’s been

'Are we the States?' daughter asks as clinic wants cash to treat mom
A 91-year-old widow with a raging infection had to pay $62 in cash — in exact change — before being treated at a Barrhaven walk-in clinic Sunday.
Ida Devine had to unexpectedly fork over the funds at the Strandherd Crossing Medical Centre after her Ontario health card — the traditional red-and-white version — was mysteriously declared void or expired.
“Are we becoming the (United) States here? Cash first and we’ll talk later?” asked Devine’s daught -
Redblacks running back William Powell says he's ready to go
Seeing William Powell’s name come off the Ottawa Redblacks roster a bit more than an hour before game time last Friday was more than a bit surprising.
Credit to running back Mossis Madu Jr., who always seems to deliver when the Redblacks call on him.
Still, knock on wood, it looks as if Powell, who missed all of the 2016 Canadian Football League season with a ruptured Achilles tendon, will be ready to go for Friday night’s game in Edmonton.
“The plan was for him to play, but he -

Redblacks grit their teeth, get ready for three games in 11 days
The Ottawa Redblacks are about to get thrown into the worst part of their Canadian Football League schedule from hell.
Three games in 11 days, four games in 17 days. No matter what kind of spin you want to put on it, that’s dangerous. It has to put the players at greater risk of injury, right?
It all starts Friday night in Edmonton. The Montreal Alouettes will be in Ottawa for a contest next Wednesday, then the Redblacks are off to Toronto for a Monday night game. In the middle of al -

Canada Goose Arctic Gallery at the Canadian Museum of Nature – a lens on a fascinating region
Come and explore the Arctic in a bold, new permanent gallery at the Canadian Museum of Nature. The Canada Goose Arctic Gallery, which opened on June 21, will open your eyes to the natural and cultural diversity of the North. David Reevely: Millions spent to keep doomed Civic going
The old Civic hospital campus is on life support, kept going by regular infusions of money for near-emergency repairs.
The latest is a multimillion-dollar replacement of its main electrical station, a 50-year-old beast in a basement in one of the oldest buildings of The Ottawa Hospital’s oldest campus, which will eat up most of a $6.16-million grant the Ontario government is giving the hospital for major repairs this year.
That, in turn, is most of the $8.8 million all Ottawa’s hospi -

Cohen: Canada can find unity in its geography
In 2017, Canada is revisiting its story of the last century and a half. It’s what nations do on big birthdays.
In a less diverse, less self-conscious country, our historical narrative was largely accepted without challenge. Now those left out – Aboriginals, immigrants – demand to hear their own, too. It means competing narratives that we try, earnestly, to reconcile through a documentary series on the CBC or the new galleries of the Canadian Museum of History.
But here’s -
Special levies poised to require more consultation and paperwork
Councillors will need to organize public meetings and file more paperwork before forcing special taxes on property owners if council votes for a new set of rules on Wednesday.
It would be too onerous for staff to run a formal process to gauge support for a new levy, so they’re suggesting that any councillor who wants to use a community-specific tax to pay for a new program should be required to first pitch it to council, hold a consultation and write a report.

Anderson East puts new spin on country music
Anderson EastWhen: July 12, 8 p.m.Where: RBC Bluesfest, Black Sheep Stage
American singer-songwriter Anderson East was on the phone from a hotel room in Tulsa, Oklahoma when he pinched his finger in a drawer.“Oh my goodness,” exclaimed the Alabama native, his Southern drawl unruffled by cussing. “I just slammed my finger.”His ability to stifle the swearing was duly noted, and the grandson of a Baptist preacher responded: “That’s the Christian in me coming out. -
Capital Voices: 'I just love coming out and making people smile'
To mark Canada’s sesquicentennial, the Citizen’s Bruce Deachman met and photographed 150 people in the Ottawa area, encouraging them to tell their stories that, combined, painted an intimate portrait of the region and the people who live, work and play here.
