Elgin Street Diner to give vintage $1 bank note to first 300 customers July 1
If you order your breakfast or burgers at the Elgin Street Diner this Canada Day you may be the one receiving a tip.
Owner Ron Shrybman will be handing out 300 crisp, uncirculated one-dollar banknotes printed in 1973 — including one random 1967 Centennial bill — to the first 300 customers, starting at 9 a.m.
Shrybman opened the 24-hour diner in 1993 and has since enjoyed round-the-clock turnover of customers. So why give out vintage cash if it’s going to be busy anyway?

Reevely: Parliament Hill teepee reminds us of all we have to make up for
The teepee that went up to reoccupy Parliament Hill this week is against the rules, but then so is Parliament.
Both of them ought to stay a while.
Finding a collective noun for the people who erected the teepee just inside the gates off Wellington Street, just below East Block, isn’t easy. The people with the teepee had an hours-long standoff with police, like protesters. Their action looks like a protest to outsiders. They do not wish to be called protesters. Their teepee is a place -

Adam: Celebrating Canada's real history of art
In a moment of frustration at the constant carping by Ottawa residents, the late National Capital Commission chairman Marcel Beaudry once told them to be grateful for the federal programs they freely enjoy because they live in the capital.
