Someone is flooding Parks Canada with access-to-information requests about the search for HMS Terror — 30 of them released so far since the fall.
The search last summer ended with the discovery of the wreck of Terror, one of two Royal Navy ships that Sir John Franklin took into Arctic waters in the 1840s. All 129 officers and men died.
Federal laws protect the names of those making the access requests, but the department says they are split about evenly between reporters and lawyers.

Canadians love the outdoors, at least in theory
A recent Angus Reid poll illustrates how difficult it is for Canadians to break free from household devices to enjoy outdoor recreation.
Apparently, we don’t tolerate summer bugs or iffy weather and we worry about having a solid WI-FI connection in that national park offering free admission this summer for Canada’s 150th birthday.
The study, which formed the basis for the Coleman Canada Outdoor Report, surveyed 1,500 Canadians. More than 98 per cent agreed that spending time outdoors -

Capital Builders: Lady Aberdeen, Canadian feminist
Lady Aberdeen was involved in every facet of Ottawa life during her five years in Canada. From hosting a historic fancy dress ball on the carpets of the House of Commons to starting poverty-relief organizations in the city, Lady Aberdeen used her status as the Governor General’s wife to launch herself into volunteering.
“The solution to all life’s difficulties can be put into one word: service,” she said to an audience of young women at Rideau Hall in 1898. She emphasized -

The Ottawa Champions scored in four different innings, the Rockland Boulders in only three, but the latter got more out of their rallies on the way to a 7-5 victory in a Can-Am League baseball game at Pomona, N.Y., on Saturday night.
