Dabrowski hopes historic French Open win inspires others
It was a moment Gabriela Dabrowski had dreamed about. And a moment she encouraged other young tennis players to pursue, to fight for.
All the sacrifices she’d made along the way, the hard work, the support from friends and family … in some sense it was further validated as she stood clutching the trophy with mixed doubles partner Rohan Bopanna of India. The dynamic duo defeated Germany’s Anna-Lena Gronefeld and Robert Farah of Colombia 2-6, 6-2, 12-10 in Thursday’s Frenc -

A councillor wants to turn the heat up on landlords whose tenants are making properties look trashy in Sandy Hill, but the city’s bylaw department is worried about being buried in work.
Rideau-Vanier Coun. Mathieu Fleury is demanding a tougher crackdown on garbage and containers strewn about multi-residential properties and is proposing a two-year pilot project to hold landowners more accountable.
But the bylaw department has been shouldering the weight of added responsibilities when it co -

Alt-right vs. Antifa: How a political clash is turning the Internet into battleground
The four men charged after a self-styled “Canadian patriot” and far right provocateur was allegedly beaten and robbed in Ottawa on Saturday will appear in court later this month, but that’s not enough for Kevin J. Johnston.
“We need a name. We need an address. We need a phone number,” Johnston urges his followers after posting video on his Freedom Report website that shows a photo of a man Johnston claimed instigated the attack.

Downtown Ottawa’s most infamous eyesore has made a national list of endangered heritage landmarks.
Somerset House is among 10 spots included on the National Trust for Canada’s annual list of endangered places, which was compiled from formal nominations and media scans conducted by staff.
The charity hopes the list will help shine a spotlight on historic places at risk due to neglect, lack of funding, inappropriate development or weak legislation.

Adam: What's Ottawa going to have to show for the 150 birthday bash?
There’s no doubt Ottawa will throw a grand party to mark Canada’s 150th anniversary, and despite misgivings about the quality of the events, locals and visitors alike will have a good time.
But after all is done and the visitors go home; after people sober up from partying and the razzmatazz wears off, what would be left in Ottawa to remember about this significant milestone? A month from then, five years from then, what can the city point to as its definitive memorial to 150 years o -
