Reevely: In defence of the giant duck
The duck bound for the Toronto waterfront is six storeys tall, 27 metres long and it weighs about 13,500 kilograms. It may yet be the thing that sinks Premier Kathleen Wynne.
The Progressive Conservatives have been pounding away at the government’s funding of a Toronto festival featuring this giant inflatable Dutch duck for days. “Was a giant rubber ducky really worth $120,000 of hard-earned taxpayer dollars, yes or no?” their leader Patrick Brown demanded in question period.

Ex-engineer not guilty of criminal negligence in Elliot Lake mall collapse
A discredited former engineer who declared an Ontario mall structurally sound just weeks before its deadly collapse five years ago was acquitted of criminal negligence on Thursday.
While critical of how Robert Wood conducted himself, Superior Court Justice Edward Gareau in Sault. Ste. Marie, Ont., nevertheless found insufficient evidence to convict him.
Teresa Perizzolo, daughter of one of the two women who died in the mall collapse, said she was disappointed, but said Gareau had done his best. -

St. Charles Market: A gathering place in Beechwood Village both then and now
Beechwood Village has a distinct character and charm unlike any other community in Ottawa.
