Ottawa Fury FC is developing a flair for the dramatic, taking its fans on yet another rollercoaster ride Saturday afternoon at TD Place.
A team that struggled scoring goals earlier in the season has found its finishing touch – in a big way. On Saturday, Fury FC went back and forth with the Richmond Kickers before emerging with a 5-3 United Soccer League win. Five goals? In soccer, that’s an explosion. In its past five games, Fury FC has scored 14 goals.

Updated: Anderson says Nicholle's cancer is 'clear' after extensive testing
The biggest victory of the season for Craig Anderson and his family came off the ice.
Only hours before the Ottawa Senators saw their season come to a finish Thursday night against the Pittsburgh Penguins with a 3-2 double-overtime loss in the East final, the club’s top goalie received word from his wife Nicholle that her cancer is in remission.
Nicholle, who learned in October she had a rare form of throat cancer, has been undergoing treatment since and the whole hockey world has be -

8 great (?) finds at the Glebe's annual garage sale
The sun was shining and the sidewalks were bustling Saturday morning at the 31st annual Great Glebe Garage Sale.
Here are some of the unique and random things I found while taking a wander.

Cumberland mother returns home in time for daughter's birth after flood
The timing ended up being perfect for a Cumberland woman forced to leave her family home weeks before giving birth to a healthy girl.
Erica Fleming was two weeks away from her due date when firefighters convinced her to leave her riverside house as flood waters overtook the neighbourhood.
Fleming, 38, didn’t know if she would be able to return to her home with her newborn daughter and three-year-old son, Tristan, after giving birth. The rising Ottawa River was unpredictable -

Karlsson leaves for the summer in good humour
Erik Karlsson left reporters laughing as he exited the Senators’ dressing room for the last time this season.
First, when asked if he was going to keep his handlebar moustache.
“Probably not,” said Karlsson, sounding (intentionally?) like another Swedish Senators captain who was criticized for using that honest reply when asked if he thought the team could come back in a playoff series against the Penguins.
“Probably not,” Karlsson said again. “I’m surpr -
Your new-look Redblacks: Grey Cup champs have seen plenty of changes
Even Grey Cup champs make changes.
It’s the way the landscape of the CFL works. Players move on to the NFL, some leave as free agents, others aren’t re-signed. So there will be plenty of new faces on the field Sunday morning as the Ottawa Redblacks open training camp at TD Place.
From the lineup the Redblacks fielded in their 39-33 overtime win over the Calgary Stampeders last November, four starting defenders (Abdul Kanneh, Mitchell White, Damaso Munoz and Forrest Hightower) ar -
Anderson says Nicholle's cancer is 'clear' after extensive testing
Craig Anderson delivered some good news before heading home for the summer.
Only hours before the Ottawa Senators saw their season come to a heartbreaking finish Thursday night against the Pittsburgh Penguins with a 3-2 double-overtime loss, the club’s top goalie got news from his wife Nicholle that her cancer is in remission after extensive testing near the couple’s home in Coral Springs, Fla.
Nicholle found out in October she had a rare form of throat cancer and has been undergoing -
MacArthur taking patient approach in thinking about his future
Before officially confirming that he’ll be back next season, Ottawa Senators winger Clarke MacArthur is hoping to get a clean bill of health.
“I don’t know what the play is,” MacArthur said as he packed up his bags and sticks in the Senators dressing room. “I just want to take a week or two and see how I feel. I still love playing the game. I’ve got to talk to the doctors and take a week or so and see where I go.”
MacArthur’s return in April, after -

Capital Facts: The only princess born in North America
In celebration of Canada’s 150th birthday, the Citizen is rolling out one fact each day for 150 days until July 1, highlighting the odd, the fascinating and the important bits of Ottawa history you might not know about.
In 1943, in the midst of the Second World War, part of the maternity ward on the third floor of Ottawa’s Civic Hospital was declared “extraterritorial” — no longer part of Canada — to clear the way for the birth of a Dutch princess.

Capital Facts: A princess used to live in the home now known as Stornoway
In celebration of Canada’s 150th birthday, the Citizen is rolling out one fact each day for 150 days until July 1, highlighting the odd, the fascinating and the important bits of Ottawa history you might not know about.
In the 1940s, Princess Juliana of the Netherlands was exiled to Canada to escape German oppression in her home country. The princess is perhaps best known for sending thousands of tulip bulbs to Canada as a display of gratitude for her stay in the country — the reason -
Eric Gillis aiming for third Canadian men's 10K road race championship
Eric Gillis has won two Canadian men’s 10-kilometre road race championships.
His chances for a third in Ottawa on Saturday evening will improve if he gets to the start line on time.
The 37-year-old runner from Guelph, Ont., arrived too late to participate in a Friday noon-hour media conference for the Ottawa 10K. He had gone to the Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend runners’ expo at the Shaw Centre on the other side of the Rideau Canal from City Hall.

Running is business for Ethiopia's Sisay Jisa, but it's not his entire life
Sisay Jisa is, to say the least, an interesting dude.
He’s a father of two boys and two girls between six months and eight years. He built a family home on the outskirts of Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa, over the span of about a year. He also spent time as a singer and guitarist.
Running well, though, is what have brought Jisa to Canada’s capital, and he’s expected to be among the elite performers in the Scotiabank Ottawa Marathon on Sunday morning.

Olympian Natasha Wodak chasing Canadian 10K title and long-lasting national record
Natasha Wodak knows her new coach knows what it takes to establish a Canadian record in the 10-kilometre road race.
Lynn Kanuka set that mark, and it has stood every day since March 3, 1989, when the athlete then known as Lynn Williams finished in 31 minutes 44 seconds in a race at Orlando, Fla.
For anyone surprised that standard has survived so long, consider this: The 10K road record set by Paul McCloy in Orlando is two years older than that.

Sick bear caught, 'dispatched' in Hawkesbury area
Police helped the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry contain a black bear in the Hawkesbury area on Friday.
According to Hawkesbury OPP, officials “perceived that the animal was in poor health and a danger to public safety,” and a wildlife technician “dispatched the animal.”
The bear was seen roaming the local communities over the past few days, but it was recently getting closer to highly populated areas, police said.

Judy Foote to return for CANSEC 2017?
The organizers of the CANSEC 2017 defence trade show, to be held in Ottawa next week, have Procurement Minister Judy Foote listed as one of their keynote speakers.
Foote is schedule to speak on June 1 at the luncheon that day.
But Foote’s office says that might not be a given.
In April, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that Foote was taking an indefinite leave of absence. It was explained the leave was for personal reasons and family reasons and Trudeau commended the minister for wa -
