Rinaldo Canonico, former hairdresser to Ottawa’s rich and famous, and a man so celebrated in social circles himself that he was known solely by his first name, died on Wednesday afternoon of complications from pneumonia.
He was 82.

A former petty officer was sentenced to nine months in civilian prison on Thursday for one count of sexual assault and three counts of breach of trust. On February 3, 2017, at a general court martial in Gatineau, Que., Ex-PO2 James Wilks was found guilty of those four charges.

Flooding: Dam regulators insist they didn't release too much water
The organization that oversees Ottawa River dams says it did not add to the flooding problem in Ottawa and Gatineau by letting too much water through its dams farther upstream.Facebook reports have been circulating with pictures of low water on the river near Mattawa, about 300 kilometres upstream, and claiming this contributed to flooding. -

Police said Thursday they had found the body of Nelliya Karbisheva, the 82-year-old Stittsville woman who went missing Sunday. Karbisheva, who police said has a form of dementia, was found in a wooded area near the end of Stittsville Main Street, not far from the area she was last seen. -

Trudeau not keen on new Afghan mission for Canada
NATO is looking at boosting the number of troops the alliance has committed to Afghanistan. It will decide on how many more soldiers are needed later this year.
There are around 13,000 military personnel, mainly involved in training Afghan forces.
But Prime Minister Justin Trudeau wasn’t exactly jumping at the bit to get involved in providing Canadian troops for an Afghan training mission. (Canada has less than a dozen soldiers involved in guarding its embassy in Kabul).

Volunteers urgently needed — this time to take away sandbags
The city says it urgently needs volunteers in areas flooded by the Ottawa River, this time to take away sandbags.
It has called for volunteers age 16 and over in Fitzroy Harbour, Constance Bay and Dunrobin, on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Anyone able and willing to help move sandbags from residential properties to the side of the road for pick up is asked to report to a meeting point at the Constance Bay Community Centre at the following dates and times:
