PITTSBURGH — Has Craig Anderson saved his best for last in this playoff series?
As the Senators prepare to face the Pittsburgh Penguins in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference final Thursday at the PPG Paints Arena, the Ottawa goaltender, coming off a 45-save performance in a 2-1 victory at home Tuesday, could move into elite company if he can help get the Senators to the Stanley Cup final.

Zack Smith has his work cut out for him trying to shut down Malkin
PITTSBURGH – Nobody combines size, speed, strength and skill quite like Evgeni Malkin.
Zack Smith was reminded of this in Game 6.
During the second period on a night he led all Senators forwards in ice time, Smith found himself in a heavy battle along the end boards with Malkin. Everyone thought he had the Penguins centre under wraps.
“So did I,” said Smith. “For a second. Then I made a mistake. I stuck to the outside and he spun on me.”

April 29, 1997
Sabres 4, Senators 3 (OT) @ Buffalo
After making the playoffs for the first time in team history, the Senators saw their magical ride come to an end in an overtime loss against Buffalo.
While there was no shortage of drama during the series when Dominik Hasek mysteriously left the net with a knee sprain in Ottawa, Derek Plante’s shot at 5:24 of overtime slipped through Ron Tugnutt’s glove to give the Sabres the series win.

Claesson takes his place in the post-season spotlight
PITTSBURGH — The kids these days. They say – and do – the craziest things.
There was Ottawa Senators defencemen Freddy Claesson, relishing in the post-game moment late Tuesday, having set up Mike Hoffman for the game winning goal.
How does it feel?
“It’s great,” he said, smiling through the kind of the playoff beard that’s only possible when a team makes it deep into the third round of the post-season. “You just want to dab.”
