  A major fire damaged two businesses at a Surrey strip mall early Wednesday morning.
  The blaze broke out shortly after 1 a.m. at one unit in the complex at 12950 80th Avenue and quickly spread to a neighbouring business.
  Dozens of firefighters worked through the morning to put out the fire, which Surrey assistant fire chief Jason Cairney said had engulfed the first business, and partly damaged the second one.

  Being from Manitoba, I am very familiar with snow, ice and the cold. Some hate it and some love it. Personally, I love it. There is nothing more beautiful than looking out the window after it snows to see trees covered in the sparkly powder. Almost as if the trees were made of diamonds. Another great thing about the cold is being able to make your own backyard rink or maybe you prefer to make snow angels. There are endless things to do in our cold Manitoba climate.

  Six people have been charged after police in Surrey and New Westminster turned up a large quantity of drugs containing lethal amounts of fentanyl.
  New Westminster police launched an investigation a year ago into suspected drug dealing in the city. 
  As a result of that investigation, search warrants were executed throughout Surrey and New Westminster, and from those officers seized a large amount of drugs, including heroin containing what police call “lethal levels” of fentanyl.

  B.C.’s police watchdog has been called in to investigate after a pedestrian was hit by a police car in Squamish Tuesday night.
  The man, in his late 20s, was struck by an on duty police officer travelling in an unmarked SUV at the intersection of Highway 99 and Garibaldi Way at around 10:30 p.m., according to the Independent Investigation Office.

  Curators unveiled a portrait of Capt. George Vancouver on Tuesday, opening old mysteries about a painting that has sat in the archives of the Royal B.C. Museum for more than 100 years.
  The painting was presented publicly in small ceremony near the museum’s replica of HMS Discovery, the ship Vancouver used to explore and map the B.C. coast in the late 18th century.
